What about ARETHA

In Griot, Music on February 25, 2010 at 12:23 pm

Black History couldn’t be more pleased. Collectively — all races are thankin’
the good Lord for angelic voices and The Queen of Soul: Aretha Franklin.

At those points when my soul needs soothing and I yearn to feel comforted during praise,
I put on Ms. Aretha Franklin to help purge the darkness away; I then meditate & pray.

It’s necessary – as is a good comforting voice;
Thus her gift is todays Black History focus & noted choice.

Black History LoverAnother Black & Historical Singer that spawn in soothing thoughts paralleling Aretha
Is the angel we lost far too soon, the versatile vocal styled Aaliyah.

They say “Chicken Soup is good for the soul”.
Well Chicken Soup ain’t got stock on the formentioned two; ergo.

…and now you know.

Toyota is starting to look like its executive seats are filled with crooks
Who couldn’t wait to boast about staving off ‘consumer safety’ hooks.
Every time I see a Toyota on the road, I switch lanes and go slow.
I’m aware of their fast flare and how they like to speed up & fly off of the road.
The owners continue to drive them — as if they didn’t care or as if they don’t know.
Toyota’s lack of responsibility is such an unattractive grow.

Earlier today I was drawn into the STEVE WILKOS Show
Regarding condoning parents of adolescents that weed smoke.
A parental poll was taken before the shows a.m. broadcast
Revealing 21% would allow ‘such behavior in their house’ & not be mad.
Especially considering what their teen age kids have to say:
“Our parents could Tell Us NO – but we’d smoke it anyway”.
The poll could use your online weigh:

MA’s new Senator shows bi-partisanship in ‘getting down’.
That’s right! The JOBS Bill received a “YAY” from Senator Brown,
As well as a few other Republican sisters & brothers.

It’s snowing in Arlington, TX again. Winter weather is healing.
It’s got me feeling sexy onsite & yearning to do some filming.
Not the X-Rated kind, but the scene will be laced with a sexy heated blow
From the smoke rings I’ll naturally exhale while filming this beautiful snow.
We’ll likely only accumulate 1-2 inches; thus it‘s only for show.
Tomorrows forecast brags that it won‘t long last.

The Family Crews

In Movies, TV Shows on February 21, 2010 at 10:53 pm

Did you catch the season premier? I did & I loved it. Terry Crews is for real. If you loved him as ‘the dad’ on Everybody Hates Chris – you’ll love him playing himself on his new reality show: The Family Crews. His wife, Rebecca was made for exposure and I was charmed to meet her. The pilot focused in on Terry’s family life highlighting that he and his wife have been married for 20 years after only having known each other a year prior.

Terry said ‘he knew the moment he met her (with that baby on her hip) that he’d marry her’. Just when every woman was sighing thinking, “What a sexy thing to say”, Terry broke down and started gripping his wallet at the price tag of the recommittment ceremony. He was honest and it was real – it was also reminiscent of his scripted character on Everybody Hates Chris. I loved it. I’ve dug Mr. Crews in a number of films: Soul Plane, White Chics, Friday after Next, etc. His versatility and cut physique are undeniably sexy. RaaaaR! BET has a new fan. Rebecca is hot too. She and Terry have 5 children; 4 girls and a boy — and none of the daughters are hotter than her. She is holding her own & looking good while doing it. Meow! ‘Gone girl!

You can catch The Family Crews reality show Sunday nights on BET at 9/8C. Alas a black family that parallels the middle class. Tune in and see yourself. Tune in and see your neighbors.

Herstory Continues

In Communication, Griot, News on February 19, 2010 at 11:16 am

I carry IT on my back: BLACK HISTORY – I love it like it’s my biological baby.
You know how doting mothers can be, so lets talk about a few historical ladies.

Their stories are not new nor should we ever slip up and forget;
Therefore I’m yielding 7 quotes per each contributor in her designated sect.

Each quote blends into the next, while making a bold and solitary statement.
I thank God for the assests of HERSTORY & the way each woman pounded the pavement:

American Evangelist and Abolitionist and social reformer. 1797-1883

a) If women want any rights more than they’s got, why don’t they just take them, and not be talking about it. b) If the first woman God ever made was strong enough to turn the world upside down all alone, then these (gathered here) together ought to be able to turn it back and get it right side up again. c) Religion without humanity is very poor human stuff. d) Truth is powerful and it prevails. e) I am glad to see that men are getting their rights, but I want women to get theirs, and while the water is stirring I will step into the pool. f) We do as much, we eat as much, we want as much. g) [That little man in black says] woman can’t have as much rights as man because Christ wasn’t a woman. Where did your Christ come from? . . . From God and a woman. Man had nothing to do with Him.

Sojourner had spunk. Right?

Founded & ran the Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company from 1906-1919

a) …I want to say to every Negro woman present, don’t sit down and wait for the opportunities to come. Get up and make them! b) There is no royal flower-strewn path to success. And if there is, I have not found it, for if I have accomplished anything in life it is because I have been willing to work hard. c) I got myself a start by giving myself a start. d) I am not satisfied in making money for myself. I endeavour to provide employment for hundreds of the women of my race. e) Perseverance is my motto. f) I am a woman who came from the cotton fields of the South. From there I was promoted to the washtub. From there I was promoted to the cook kitchen. And from there I promoted myself into the business of manufacturing hair goods and preparations….I have built my own factory on my own ground. g) I am not ashamed of my past. I am not ashamed of my humble beginning.

Madam CJ Walker was anything but a sideline talker. I’m still inspired, still imPRESSed and currently flat ironing. ♥

A literary of the Harlem Renaissance – She spoke Harlemese 1920-1950

a) Anybody depending on somebody else’s god – is depending on a fox not to eat chickens; b) But for the national welfare, it is urgent to realize that the minorities do think, and think about something other than the race problem; c) A thing is mighty big when time and distance cannot shrink it; d) I did not just fall in love. I made a parachute jump; e) It costs you something to do good; f) If you want that good feeling that comes from doing things for other folks then you have to pay for it in abuse and misunderstanding. g) It would be against all nature for all the Negroes to be either at the bottom, top, or in between. We will go where the internal drive carries us like everybody else. It is up to the individual.

Zora was Literally RIGHT ON – thus I can’t help but continue to WRITE ON. Right on?

To the average eye, it may seem as if I’m doing a bit of doting;
To the more skilled eye, I’m merely learning, growing and doling.

So an Hamas Leader was killed in Dubai
By Assasins 11 – one woman and 10 guys.
Here on the home front – no officials have died
But we are in the last days of Senator Bayh.
Democrats can be so sorry and Republicans are so often wrong;
Thus Evan Bayh really needs to go, if his execution skills aren’t strong.
Hence Bye – Bye BAYH & So long!

Long after we’ve “Professed our Sexting” regarding key figure heads in Golf –
We’ve got a fertile (murderous) porn star trying to set the tabloids off.
She claims she rode Tiger and made babies out of two of his seeds
Claiming she miscarried one & the other was an aborted deed.
Oooo Weee.
Sensational headlines do sell if you’re looking;
But me? I think she’s lying & her arse needs whooping.
However if she’s being truthful and was tee’ing a codom-less vigor,
Elle won’t have to worry about future fights – She’s better off without Tiger.
But lets hope that’s not the case.
Porn stars aren’t fetched too far from being a lie in bald face.
I call it like it is – Hello. Hi & Hey-eeyy!
Breaking News:: Tiger will be making a statement FRIDAY.

Now let’s talk about something bright – Let’s talk about something good
Let’s talk about what Joe Holland is doing in the Central HARLEM hood.
Harvard Business man returns home as economics are sliding down
But that didn’t stop Joe from opening up GOSPEL UPTOWN!
I saw Joe’s UPTOWN story broadcasted on Anderson 360
And composed this Griot thwart of his smarts all too quickly.

Hallelujah and Thank God for good intentioned deeds!
It seems the 10 Americans arrested in Haiti have also been freed.
The Judge’s gavel has allowed 8 of them to leave the country.
The HaitianS claims about “kidnapping kids” is still ‘hazy & funky’.

I’d like to think all Missionaries on site – were up to nothing but good,
But I’m black and my ancestors too were kidnapped from their native hood.
Clarity is good — and most understood.
I’m praying for clarity
we know good deeds are a scarcity.

Last but not least,
A moment of silence for the violence of a mountains crease.
Joseph (“Joe”) Bohlig liked to go HIGH and be photogenic with friends;
It was the last thing he did before falling into a creavice on Mt. Helen.
Mourn not for him – he died doing what he liked
Mourn not for the Hamas leader either“What you live by – You die”.
It was true for Shaka Zulu too.

…and me? I’m just happy to be alive.

Benecio & Anthony have Bite!

In Movies on February 15, 2010 at 9:12 pm

The WOLFMAN legend is no new tale, so I wasn’t expecting a new story to emerge on the screen. I went to see Benecio Del Toro & Anthony Hopkins in The Wolfman because I was interested in seeing where Joe Johnston [Director] was going with the special effects & cast line up as well as where Andrew Kevin Walker [Writer] and David Self [writer] were going to go with the script.

I liked it on all fronts. It had bite. The special effects weren’t new, especially if you’ve seen An American Werewolf in London or The Howling. The Wolfman [2009] yielded more of a polished parallel to the same canining process we’d seen in the ’80s.

I won’t give away any details, but I will say this isn’t the first time Anthony Hopkins has left me in my cinematic chair mumbling “arse circumference” under my breath — he naturally plays his patriarch role to a “t”. Benecio didn’t let me down – either. He plowed and howled through each act and got his just due in the end as Lawrence, the heired son to Anthony Hopkins character. An interesting ingredient wormed its way into the virtual format when Mr. Abberline ‘the werewolf [bounty] hunter’ showed up with his distinctive voice in tow. It was actor HUGO WEAVING who is also known as “Agent Smith” from The Matrix. I solely identified him by his voice and slowly but surely the well trimmed beard he wore on his face in Wolfman started to fit around his jaw bone and transcend him into a new character I’d just met. By the close of the show Agent Smith appeared to have quite a future in The legend of Wolfman. ‘Tis 13 days until the next full moon [Feb. 28, 2010]…

ALL-STAR Weekend

In Griot, Music, Sports on February 15, 2010 at 12:56 pm

QE is a Fan of ALL of the STARS involved

At first glance one might think the headlining picture is of a Spartan. I beg of thee to look again, it’s actually Usher at the 2010 All Star Game. His leather 6-pack abs vest complete with pecs was strangely attractive. Okay – okay I have a leather fetish. lol! I own a few leather corsets that don’t “rip me up”, but they do bind my love handles quite nicely and Usher was well enhanced as he sang and danced in star mode like he always does.

The Cowboy Stadium is the Largest Dome Stadium to date and has the largest HD television in the world [11,500 feet ] – it comfortably accomodated 108,000 fans Sunday night. The City of Arlington, TX welcomed over 200,000 visitors over the weekend and lucratively enjoyed doing so; the spill over into Dallas, TX was RIDICULOUS! We loved it! Y’all Come Again.

The East Team went hard and The East Team WON!
But not even that could over shadow the half time fun:

Usher went hard and Shakira took the crowd
With her forward pelvic thrusting and her “she wolf howl”.

Her performance was a sexy wow that generated a lot of heat –
That is, until the piano was fired up and out came Alicia Keys.

We were feeling Alicia – no doubt. She melodically conveyed her art
But it didn’t get the All Star response it deserved –because she sang solely about NY.

We all love the NY song – folks around the world would certainly agree
But it almost seemed as if she were purposely “not acknowledging” the BIG D.
Oooo Weee.

When her intuition kicked in & told her with certainty that the crowd didn’t have her back
She changed the words to: “ALL STAR” in place of the word “NY” on her chorus track.

Oh Frack! We could see it in her face – she without a doubt knew
Underestimating the intelligence of the audience just wasn’t the thing to do.

Oh well – we still love her and the halftime show was still pretty good.
Sure we all love NYbut not as much as we love our own hood.

ALL STAR Entertainment is GLOBAL and should be geographically understood.

And the weekends festivities went harder than wood.

What about BILL

In Movies on February 12, 2010 at 12:18 pm

If I could be someone’s secret valentine today, I’d spend my reel affections on Bill Dukes. I am a student of Mr. Dukes’ film history varietas.

I don’t talk about Mr. Dukes a lot, but his lifes impressions have watermarked my own.
I’ve been digging Sir Bill Dukes for over two decades – long before I was grown.
His point of views: STRONG. I had no choice but to pay attention.
In doing so – t’was the perfect marinade for todays literal mention.

Roses are Red and Violets are Blue.
I aspire to go higher
and light inspirational fires
like Mr. Bill Dukes.

Highlighting The Michelles

I am an intellectual fan of two heavily lobed women who both happen to be named Michelle and no – they’re not related. The first outstanding Michelle that comes to mind is married to the President of the United States: Michelle Obama. She’s classy, well spoken, confident and caring. The first lady was recently on C-SPAN pushing our new “LET’S MOVE” program aimed at heading off obesity and diabetes in our youth. The program is structured to begin in the school system by removing the high fat, low nutritious menus we’re currently serving and implementing more vegetables, baked items and healthier choices. Mrs. Obama is also pushing for fewer if any vending machines to be at the disposal of our thriving young on school property. The website explains the program in detail, so check it out and see what they’re proposing for our school aged children over the next 7 years. If we don’t change how we’re feeding our kids, we’ll be the first generation to have children that don’t outlive their parents. That’s not what we want, so “LET’S MOVE” to a fitter way of doing things. Our kids are bright, but they need our guidance, the website will help guide you (the parent) to making better more informed choices for your family. Improving the quality of our life would fall under “caring”. Our country could use the nourishment. Let’s Move together to extend the life our children.

C-Span is a great way to stay current and connected to what’s going on at Capitol Hill when you’re home, but did you know you can get the same good 411 when you’re in your car too? Well it’s not C-Span, because that would be boring in traffic, this station is better – it’s NPR Radio. Surely you know it. If you don’t – I implore you to try them and check out the program “TELL ME MORE” with Michel Martin. This young lady stays on top of it all. Sometimes I have to pull over and park so that my mind can fully engage in the topic of the day, because the contents are usually captivating, enlightening and inspiring. Michel asks the toughs questions and divvies the good 411. Most of the shows on NPR are fantastic, but nothing feed the mind more than kicking it with Michel and her daily score.

The Michelles aren’t the only Michelles that I happen to dig
There are too many to mention as I rolodex my wig.
I do dig a ‘heavy head hitter’ and these two ladies are always on it.
I’m Qui
A supporter of it all – Oui! C-Span and NPR just spawn it.

Why We Laugh – SHOWTIME!

In TV Shows on February 10, 2010 at 7:11 pm

WHY WE LAUGH was inspired by comedian Darryl Littletons book “Black Comedians on Black Comedy”. Producer and writer Quincy Newell and director Robert Townsend have crafted a no-holds-barred documentary that is both an insiders take and a critical examination of the cultural influence of black comedy.

Why We Laugh is a hilarious and spectacularly archived film enriched by including interviews with prominent scholars, politicians, cultural critics, and a host of notable comics, including Dick Gregory, Bill Cosby, Chris Rock, Keenan Ivory Wayans, Katt Williams, D.L. Hughley, Steve Harvey and Sommore. The only draw back is — it’s only broadcasting outlet is exclusively on SHOWTIME.

If you don’t have the premium channel -go on and LAUGH ANYWAY,
