Naked on The Grassy Knoll

In Music on March 31, 2010 at 6:03 am

A Window Seat with Erykah Badu

A Naked Erykah Badu on the grassy knoll in Dallas where President Kennedy was shot, is stirring up all kinds of controversy over the last two days. The video “WINDOW SEAT” [watch it HERE] is phenomenal (if you ask me) and for a plethora of reasons: Unbridled ART being #1.

Ms. Badu walks the downtown streets of Dallas towards the exact spot where President Kennedy was assasinated. During her walk she sheds her jacket, shirt, pants, bra and panties — ultimately revealing the “EVOLVING” tattoo (message) across the upper part of her back (between the shoulders). Once she reaches the approximate spot where President Kennedy was shot, we hear gunfire and a shapely NAKED Erykah Badu falls dead in the road. At that point we hear the following narration:

“THEY (playing it safe) are quick to assasinate what they do not understand.
They move in packs ingesting fear more and more with every act of hate on one another.
They feel more comfortable in groups – LESS GUILT to swallow.
They are us. This is what we’ve become: Affraid to RESPECT the Individual.
A single person within a circumstance can move one to CHANGE;
to LOVE herself;
EVOVLE.

By God Erykah is right! WE are THEY –collectively.

More over that, the video demonstrates Erykah being “one person within a circumstance” — a circumstance that the city of Dallas is now investigating for possible copyright infringements. As you can see, (Watch Video HERE), it doesn’t look like too many copyright laws have been infringed upon besides the few seconds of audible narration that opens the video. However, in all honesty — THAT too would be easy to recreate with Final Cut Soundtrack Pro. The video reel was shot and edited to have a “dated & historical feel” much like the original footage archived of President Kennedy during his visit to Dallas, TX. GENIUS!

The video is GENIUS in two parts, [1] by recalling history & stirring up discomfort and [2] comes in an obvious plea found in the songs chorus:

“I need you to want me.
I need you miss me.
I need yo’ attention!
I need you next to me.
I need someone to clap for me.
I need yo’ direction.
Come back – Come back Baby.
Come back.”

I’M BACK 🙂 and I’m so glad I’ve got a WINDOW SEAT into the vision of Ms. Erykah Badu’s artsy exhibition of history and present — to date. What did you think about it?

I need your Support, I need your Love, I need your Attention,

3 of 11 Ways to Feel Beautiful [Part 3]

In Self Improvement on March 30, 2010 at 8:38 pm

Back to The O Magazine and how they do,
We’ve got 3 more ways to enhance a more Beautiful you!

We’ve shared the other 8 out of 11 ways that were magazine listed:
Click Part 1 & Part 2 for prior encouragement – if you missed it.

9. Give Yourself A Reality Check
Unless you live off the grid (and if you’re reading this, you probably don’t), you’re bombarded with media images of willowy poreless women. It’s human nature to compare yourself with these images–but if you’re not a supermodel, you’ll come up short. Until sush pictures are stamped with warning labels (an idea British and French lawmakers have proposed), when you catch yourself in the act of comparing remember that these pictures are incredibly unrealistic– engineered by teams of litghting experts, makeup artists, and a tricky little computer application called Photoshop. Thye’re created to make you feel insecure and encourage you to open your wallet. “Studies of teens have shown negativity about appearance”, says Kerry O’Brien, PhD, a psychology lecturer at the University of Manchester.

10. Choose Your Friends Wisely
Recent research shows that our social networks have a profound effect on our behaviors and attitudes– including how we percieve our appearance. “It’s hard to feel good about your looks if you’re surrounded by people who criticize their own”, says Etcoff. “Spend time around people who are confident in their bodies, and you’ll find yourself following suit.” And if you don’t already have a few gay men in your circle of friends, you might want to add some: A study published last year in the journal Body Image found that friendships with gay men can elevate women’s body esteem.

11. View Yourself In A Flattering Light
We mean that literally, as in change your lightbulbs. White coated incandescent bulbs cast a wash of soft pretty light, says lightening expert Dan Blitzer persidnet of Practical Lighting Workshop. The Phillips Natural and GE Reveal brands also filter out yellow tones for a clean white light that goes easy on all skin tones. Consider the placement of your light fixtures as well: “When light reaches your face from all directions, it minimizes lines and shadows”, says Blitzer. In your bathroom, replace overhead lighting with fixtures on either side of your mirror.

FEELING BEAUTIFUL inside and out,

It’s what LIFE @ IT’S BEST is all about.

NEWS PERUSE

In Griot, News, Politics on March 29, 2010 at 6:38 am

Whew! What a weekend it’s been
There was news that made me frown and news that made me grin::

I perused quite a bit and found myself being inspired
By the love of a mother who lost her life in a self started fire.
It’s a CRAZY HEADLINE — but you should also know
The house was a crack house w/a gutted out flow.
Her daughter had been missing and drugs were the alleged louse
She found her missing teen doing drugs in an abandoned house.
After dowsing the house with gasoline, a fire ignited with no match
because of the other occupants flicking lighters to allegedly light ‘crack’.

The teen girls ran out of the front, as did a grown arse man – his daily reside.
The girls cried to the vigilant mother that there was a baby trapped inside.
The mom went back in but no baby was in sight
The burning house then collapsed, taking the “concerned mothers” life.
Everything got darker for the teens with every crack of the days new light…
This particular story happened in the DFW — over night.

I perused a few other stories and found a Christian militia group
Wanting to start ARMAGEDDON
against opposing Muslim truths.
Now my name isn’t RUTH and I certainly don’t know it all,
But isn’t it LOVE not WAR — that is the Christains call?
Tis a good reason to “pray and pause“…
A half cocked group – shouldn’t be ‘the worlds’ END ALL.

Female Bombers in Russia boarded a subway & released ‘the POW!’
They blew up 2 crowded commutes in the earlier hours of Moscow.
Ow! No terrorist group has come forth to claim ownership of the blasts
And 38 of the LIVES that were on board besides the 2 have also passed.

Sarah Palin came to the aid of Old Man John McCain
The team that lost
is back “begging to be the boss”

the broadcasted event was comically insane.
God bless the Republican train…

The Democrats HIGHEST donkey kick — goes to my main man
Mr. President Barack Obama for stopping by & relating in Afghanistan.

Last but not least: GOOD DEEDS set the tone of any new days rise,
The HEALTH CARE LAW (is the biggest call) that’s got many of us on a high!!!

and I don’t mind
sharing random media outlet views.
When it comes to tying it all together I opt for a Griot NEWS PERUSE.

GIRLS to-the HOOP

In Griot, Sports on March 28, 2010 at 5:46 pm

Girls to the Hoop

Sure Brit [#42] is young and making ‘dunking and fouling’ headlines
But did you know Maya Moore [#23] is also on the HOOP’la shine?

The time is thiers and the NCAA basketball court is their scoring play.
Have been watching the way these young ladies aggressive drive & lay?

Initially the female games (to me) were “cute” with an occasional foul — as a miner,
but that was before Maya Moore hit the floor or the passionately physical Brit Griner.

I stand behind her, watching the ESPN games and cheering the dames on.

Political Incivility

In Griot, Movies, News, Politics on March 25, 2010 at 3:19 pm

What’s up with Congress?

Every since the House passed the Health Care bill, there’s been alot of incivil activity on the rise.
The conveyance of law is a Democrats GOOD and ‘a counter party‘ is chafely in despise.

After the President signed The Bill – Democratic officials have been targeted and sought out
Offices vandilized — it’s no surprise, but what’s Representative Cantors “bullet hole issues” about?

Representative Anthony Weiner is also making victimized news
as his office has recieved a threatening letter of powdery hues.

Things are getting grossely out of hand – yet it’s a bit of an inside joke
things always go ary when the republican party loses and goes for broke.

“Get it together”, said Gabrielle Union to Vivica Fox in TWO CAN PLAY THAT GAME
I’m extending a hug to my fellow Democrats & Repubs to follow suit and to do the same.
Incivil outbursts are often seen as no less than insane.

Don’t fall apart in the game. That’s not a “united strengthkind of view

Democrats: Delivering on ‘A Promise’

In Griot, News, Politics on March 23, 2010 at 3:23 pm

Today Our President has literally made history by signing the Health Care Reform Bill into LAW. Vice President Biden introduced the Presidents signage with a quote by the classic poet Virgil that says “The greatest wealth is health”.

Once President Obama took the floor he said, “This legislation will take 4 years to fully impliment the reforms but a host of desperately needed reforms will take effect –
Right away – This year.

This year we will offer tax credits to about four million small business men and women to help cover the cost of insurance for their employees.

This year tens of thousands of uninsured Americans with pre-existing conditions will finally be able to get the coverage that they need.

This year insurance companies will no longer be able to drop insurance coverage of people when they get ‘too sick’. They won’t be able to place lifetime limits or restrictive annual limits on the care that they need.

This year all new insurance plans will be required to offer free preventive care and young people will be able to stay on their parents policy until they’re 26 years old.

This year seniors who fall in “the donut hole” (coverage gap) will get help…”

He went on and on to make it clear
That our beloved Sr. citizens have nothing to fear.

He went on to give due credit to politicians of the past
Who knew that a nations strength w/o healthcare wouldn’t last.

Delivering on ‘A Promise’ one deed at a time.
Much can be accomplished under Pelosi’s shine.

Much can be accomplished if we all come together
and bond out of humanity and less by ‘party weather’.

As Health Care Reform gets under way, there are other issues crying out:
like what Dr. Cornel West & Tavis Smiley have been talking about.

Well it ain’t nothing new – nor is it something we can afford to drop;
Because our President is black, is reason not for activism to stop.

Contrary to what many may want to believe – HATE is alive and well.
When the House was passing the health care bill – “slur restraints” were shot to hell.

The gays are duly making noise, as not to be pushed aside or overlooked
and immigrants are on the vent – requesting more RIGHTS on the books.

A good President can’t get off the hook, once everyone realizes he can ‘get her done’,
I’m Qui
Glad to be living Obama History
– being the recipient of ‘A HEALTHY Promise’ sure is fun.

If obtaining Health Care has been “a Big F**king Deal” — soon you can get some!
Vice President Joe Biden and his “raw quotes” respectively bar none. 🙂

The House Passes HEALTH CARE REFORM

In Griot, News, Politics on March 21, 2010 at 9:16 pm

The House has PASSED the Senates HEALTH CARE REFORM Bill tonight @ about 9:45pm [CST]. This was the final step needed before sending it on to the President where he will then SIGN IT into a LAW!

Thank God for Jesus — this country is moving ahead.
Health Care will be made into law & was solely DEMOCRAT lead.

Bi-partisanship was sought – but was no where to be found;
The Bill the House passed tonight — is historically profound.

The administrations voice is sound and many are sick tonight.
I just couldn’t retire for the evening and not celebratory express in write.

If you didn’t know my position on the matter — I’m a HEALTHY loving mother
who’s happier tonight because ALL Americans will soon be “health care” covered.

VH1 HIP HOP HONORS ‘key-in’ on The SOUTH

In Griot, Music, News on March 20, 2010 at 1:57 pm

VH1 2010 Focus
Straight from the mouth of Fab5Freddy: “The 2010 VH1 Hip Hop Honors is focusing in on the South this year” and instead of airing in October (as they have years before), the PARTY will POP OFF in JUNE! “Get out!” I said, while i-chatting in TX with the Legendary Hip Hop Statesman broadcasting from his NY home.

Don’t you just love technology? You gotta’ love it, especially when the feed you’re taking in is dropping mad information about this years VH1 Hip Hop Honors honoring The Geto Boyz, Slim Thug, Bun B, and on and on and on… It looks like the ATL will be represented, as will the boot (Louisiana), Florida, and the VA. Yep! Timbalands contributions run deep. Whenever I think Hot VA Hip Hop Producers: Timbaland, Magoo & Missy are among staple thoughts. Amen? I’m anxious already – it’s going down in JUNE. The count down is on! Stay Tuned…

VH1 Hip Hop Honors will be focusing in on the south
What an interesting choice – during this musical drought.

When I first heard the news, I shreaked where I sat.
Because I’ve heard no new music in my southern hood to warrant that.

But when the Hip Hop Statesman clarified, they’re going back to the start
And focusing on the foundation of the southern rap movement – @ heart,

I began to relax easy and let Fab continue to paint the view
that looked alot like focusing on key figures — who are well past thier due.

Oo-Oo-Ooo The Geto Boyz ain’t new & ain’t cut a track in 2 decades
But it’s never to late, (while breaths in your face) to be awarded the honorable accolade.

Hey-eeey! I’m diggin’ it – I’m diggin’ it. Last years broadcast was a HIT!
What an honor it is, to have geographical dibs in the Hip Hop Honors gig.

My wig is happy! Good information and technology highlighted the score,

The ‘Exit Prank’ in a NJ Wal-Mart stank

In Communication, Griot, News on March 17, 2010 at 7:48 pm

Someone took to the loud speaker in a NJ Wal-Mart the other day
and made an announcement for ‘black folks to go away’::

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, New Jersey – Wal-Mart Stores Inc. officials are reviewing security tapes to try to determine who used a southern New Jersey store’s public-address system to tell “all black people” to leave.

On Sunday evening at the Washington Township store, a male voice calmly announced: “Attention Wal-Mart customers: All black people leave the store now.”

Witnesses told the Courier-Post newspaper that customers and store employees looked stunned. Management later apologized.

The company spokesperson can’t identify who did the bid of ‘ill customer relations’
So Wal-Mart is looking into the matter and the incident is under investigation.

As for the black customers who were shopping – an apology will have to suffice
After all if you’re shopping at Wal-Mart chalk it up to the high cost of a low price.
🙂
