Concentration

In Communication, Griot, Networking, Self Improvement on April 30, 2014 at 8:52 am

Qui_Future Concentration Apr2014Did you ever play that child hood game called CONCENTRATION (not the board or card memory game)? It was a sing songy game that included synchronized hand clapping between two or more lads. The sing-songy words of the game are:

Concentration.
Doody wop! [clap-clap-clap]
Pick it up. [clap-clap-clap]
My name. [clap-clap-clap]
Your name. [clap-clap-clap]
People. [clap-clap-clap]

The moral of the game was name introductions.  Once it was your turn to speak, you’d say:

My name [clap-clap-clap]
Is [clap-clap-clap]
Qui [clap-clap-clap]

Then the others would chime in and say:

Hello [clap-clap-clap]
Qui [clap-clap-clap]

and we’d move on to the next person in line to introduce themselves. It was a great social ice breaker and charged each kid to concentrate on new introductions. When building upon a new foundation (adolescent mind or a business), concentration is key.

As an adult who owns her own business, I have very few friends in my career circle of whom I can clap hands with in a game of productive and creative concentration. I’m okay with that. Concentration is flexible. I spend a lot of  it on my reel journey, with the confidence that destiny is being served and that my work will be here to help propel you to the next level – tomorrow.

5-4-3-2-1 it’s all about ACTION with me! I’m focused on #The Future.

Good people, I am concentrated and focused on my purposeful journey.
Every man should live out his purpose before resting on the gurney.

It’s good to embrace others, but not more than you embrace yourself.
Stay concentrated in your purpose and worry not about the wealth.

Your purpose is a good one, look at your actions and figure out what it is.
Then concentrate on self improvement and use your good vibes to build a bridge.

Concentrate on your purpose and put into it what you’d like to receive in life.
I’m Qui
Concentrating on my purpose, and the advice that I divvy via these griot writes.

I pray they yield you productive thoughts – for this is my bridge construction.
Concentrate on the good and brace yourself for the good eruption.

Me? I’m just a positive pushing Ms.
and there is absolutely  no toll to use this bridge.
xo!

I bid thee safe passage on your journey relation.
It’s good to mix and mingle but live in Concentration.

That dude Riario

In Griot, Networking, TV Shows on April 28, 2014 at 7:28 am

DaVinci and Riario Remember last month when I talked about those DD episodes on STARZ? Now please tell me you saw Saturdays episode?

cross-divider

Well if you haven’t seen the last episode, then stop reading here.
Spoilers
kill the DVR’s secret — and a spoiler via griot is near.
__________

After finding themselves in the new land and in chains, Riaro and DaVinci are both involved in a challenge to save their lives. They weren’t pitted against each other by the new land governors, but placed on the same team. The governess places DaVinci’s hand inside of a ceremony box frame where a poisonous snake lie dormant for snack,  as she charges Riaro with his portion of the challenge that is to save both their lives. In paraphrase, Riario would be placed in a corn field with 3 other warriors whose sole purpose is to kill him. He must kill each one and return with the antidote for DaVinci. If he fails, both of their lives will end. Riario showed up.

Now if you’re a follower of DD then you surely know
that DaVinci and Riario are less friend and more foe.

Still Riaro rose to the challenge and fatally delivered each warrior to the ground
though the last blow, that would render antidote to his foe, involved taking Zita down.

Zita, is Riario’s mocha maiden voyage mate. Zita is his friend.
A new respect for Riaro is birthed at my mocha sisters end.

Blake Ritson is the name of the actor who portrays DaVinci’s nemesis so well,
I’m Qui
digging That dude Riario from DD and couldn’t resist to tell.

When a challenge comes up this week, paint your chest and get right to it.
I’m confident in all that comes my way – after seeing Riaro go through it.

I don’t like ALL NUTS

In Griot, News on April 25, 2014 at 8:48 am

All Nuts[4.27] This Just In — More News on nutty and distasteful hitters,
per Don Sterling, the owner of the NJ CLIPPERS.

Don is a married man who’s on audio, talking to his side chic
about her and Magic Johnson sharing a smile on an Instagram pic:

.

He’s asking her why it is that she wants to be associated with blacks,
and request that she not be so public; keep black associations under wraps.

The ex-girlfriend is mixed, Mexican and Black,
and she wasn’t going out like that.

Surely for “feuds sake,” she gave the audio to TMZ
and now old man Don Sterling is making new history.

Cards on the table.
Thanks for letting me see.
____________

What is it with the racial outbursts? What thing has caused this nastiness to erupt?
What makes today a better day to slang racism to the gut?

Yet another question is why would Don Sterling ever think it’s okay
to make such a racist request in his black girlfriends face?

NUTS.

I don’t like them all, just pecans, peanuts and walnuts – chopped.
Though I hear pistachios are good… well, their commercials are pretty hot.

Nuts provide a healthy fat – please be thorough when you’re chewing.
And as for that NUT, Cliven Bundy in Nevada – what on earth is he doing?

Yes. I did go there. You knew it was coming up.
Why else on a Friday – a natural high day, would I hit on the topic of NUTS?
lol!

I do like pecans, they are a necessary fat,
especially when finely chopped in a shortbread cookie snack.

I prefer my chopped walnuts to be in an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie
and in my COLD STONE CREAMERY scoop. #TreatFan! I am no rookie.

Peanuts. I’m glad I don’t have allergies, because that would truly hem
my relationship with those fun-to-eat peanut M&M’s.

Almonds. I just remembered, I really like these too.
Especially the flavored ones, whose brand name starts with BLUE.
Ooo!

But I don’t like ALL NUTS and I question how others could deem yummy
the revolting actions and statements of that NUT Cliven Bundy.

It’s Friday baby! We made it because we absolutely didn’t give up.
I’m Qui
Cracking on Bundy – because it’s true, I don’t like ALL NUTS.

Say Cheese with the NYPD

In Communication, Griot, Networking, News, Self Improvement on April 23, 2014 at 1:53 pm

Say Cheese for the NYPD 2014

.  Or perhaps you’d like to say, “Ouch!” instead of “Cheese” — judging by the picture reflections that the NYPD received on Twitter when they Twitted out a request for the public to share with them their favorite pictures taken with the NYPD and instructed them to include the hashtag #MyNYPD Pictures. The request went viral and returned dimensional #NYPD reflections from “a diddle doe – to them locking up Joe.

Talk about a campaigns #EpicFail.

The NYPD was hoping to revamp their look via social media by requesting the photos. This morning, their looking at themselves in the mirror and they don’t like what they see. I understand that feeling.  I often look in the mirror and am disgusted by what I see when I don’t have the proper matching shoes. It’s not a look to be proud of.  So imagine how the NYPD is feeling this morning. What a reflection.

blue_diamond divider

Well, everyone has flaws – none of which we like to hear of,
though a bigger blow is seeing those flaws in the the face of your mirror.

And what’s worse than that, is how their actions make the towns people feel.
It kills their respect for the police on deck – yielding a culturally negative appeal.

When I look into the mirror and I don’t like what I see,
I just change my shoes to another hue, (word to the wise: NYPD).

It’s not the shoes that you’re wearing, but it’s the soul that walks within.
If you want to regain the peoples respect, replace the scour with a grin.

Instead of stopping law abiding folk in traffic, because you just want to kill time,
try helping that man on the side of road. His hood is up… it’s a visible sign.

You don’t have to be a mechanic to help that man on the side of the road;
it’s  yielding an exhibition of compassion, instead of hounding the law abiding soul.

A negative PD reflection is not solely the flaw of New York,
I hear the other 49 states are united in the same kind of sport.

Violating peoples rights, because you were a blue suit,
is nothing to be respected for. The people don’t find you cute.

Disrespectful actions. You’re killing the honor of ‘the blue.’
Don’t believe my assessment? Check the Twitted pictures for the truth.

Again, this reflection is not solely New Yorks finest own,
I’ve seen the same pics in the Lone Star state as well as in the Zone.

Now, I’m for the good of us all – I’d love to see a new PD mindset in all 50 states.
Perhaps this discussion of #MyNYPD pictures will cause officials to do an ‘about face.’

We can do it! We can do it! Let wisdom & compassion be a ‘man in blues fixture.’
I’m Qui
and it’s either change your ways, or accept the rotten cheese that you see in the pictures.

You don’t have to dig me or my point-of-view. Feel free to disagree.
Just be sure when it’s you whose forced to endure, don’t forget to Say Cheese!

Coming around to Billy…

In Communication, Griot, Self Improvement, TV Shows on April 21, 2014 at 12:50 pm
Billy Miner vs Tom David

L-R: Billy Miner and Tom David, ie… the beloved Billy Abbott

Billy Abbott that is. Have you been watching Tom David refill his shoes that Billy Miller relinquished last year? I really hated to see Mr. Miner go. He shaped the Billy Abbott role into something sexy. He brought swag to the persona. I am so sure he has exited Y&R for bigger dramatic roles. No, I have no inside information to share at this time, but you know you can tell when the depth of a character resides solely with the actor by how he comprehends and relays the writers template. Billy Minor single handledly gave Billy Abbott a huge fundamental facelift.

Tom David was the first Billy Abbott ever casted in Y&R back in the 80’s, and a couple (or few) have come and gone since, all were interchangeable and stuck to the script, but when Billy Miner wore the shoes, the writer was forced to add swag to the characters scripted choreography and to their credit, they did it seamlessly. Billy Abbott went from being Jill Abbott’s annoying, rich and aimless son to someone a house wife could and would break from mopping to study. Bravo writers! I saw it all happen and it was beautiful, then Billy Miner exited the cast last year to faites de meilleures choses

Tom David puts his baptized shoes back on and assumes his role-right.  At first it was a funky fit. He was walking funny, (in character), as if to say, ‘Now, whose shoes are these? I’m married to who?’ It was a struggle to watch Tom get back into the swing of things, but then today… today I tune into Y&R and see Billy Abbott moving forward in niching out his new view. It seems the writers have literally killed the old Billy (crafted by Billy Miner) and have started anew with a lighter, more social kind of Billy Abbott in script. Today I found myself not struggling, but Coming around to Billy. I can’t say it was anything in particular he said, but was definitely in how he handled himself in what he did. I do remember a scene he had with Chelsea Newman today, where he stopped by at a rather odd hour and unannounced, I thought I was about to be annoyed but Billy handled his role with a unique and interesting set of likable, quick-debating skills that won him entrance into Chelsea’s domain and into the favorable column in my loyal viewers mind.

Whew! That was a mouthful! That’s the work of the writing cast on Y&R. I’m full of praise because I know first hand how rough it is to keep the long-term interest of the peering public. ALL MY CHILDREN knows it. GENERAL HOSPITAL knows it and RYAN’S HOPE died shortly after it’s birth. Surely you remember? Well knock-on-wood, because that is not the story of Y&R. And I am content still, even though Billy and Victoria Newman-Abbott are filing for divorce. I am convinced that there may be a be a good life in the script coming down the pipeline for ol’ Billy – of course a lot of that will hinge on what Tom David can do in his shoes. I’m ready to see him dance. How about you? Yo DJ!! Pump that Y&R joint!

decorative-line-divider1

Yes! I’m Coming around to Billy, and I’m really glad about it.
I thought he’d be annoying and considered the role and ‘out-it.’

I felt like Billy Miner’s talents did the role a favor and that the story line would unfortunately show
that the scripted character took a shot-to-the-eye when they let Billy Miner go.

Yes, the switch started out slow and whenever Tom David would enter the set, I’d go and get water.
There was no interest in my mid-day routine for Jill’s son, ‘the annoying, the rich and the guarded.’

Though today the tides seems to be changing and rolling someone new up onto the beach.
I’m Qui
and Y&R’s Tom David is the one who seems to be up to dance. I’m looking forward to his role-right beat.

He has my attentions.
Enough to warrant this mention.

PS — Did you see that kiss Billy planted on Chelsea today? Wooo Hooo!

Lets Get BUSY

In Communication, Griot, Networking, News, Self Improvement on April 16, 2014 at 8:20 am

QEMag_Busy Time Well, Twitter isn’t my chief interest, so we’ll get to that in the end,
I think I’d better start with physical fitness — it’s my morning begin.

So I’ve lost 12 pounds in 30-days with no supplements or diets
I’m giddy over the revelation; my level of excitement is: riot.

It’s just been me, the treadmill and a pair of headphones that I found at a production meet,
Someone had thrown them away, but they looked ‘all-good’ to me.

That’s one man’s trash, that has turned out to be my treasure,
and the production that I’ve conquered with them, has yielded me a lighter mass-measure.

I’m interested in getting addicted to exercise and less on the cookie.
I’ve noticed the endorphins have been yielding more thoughts of afternoon nookie.
Aw sookie-sookie! What is this here?
I give to the yield: two chest perks and a cheer!

I’m thinking this is a good time to say Let’s Get BUSY,
and suggest some exercises before you get ‘naught thought’ dizzy.

Ah-ha! Stick with me now, I’m penetrating layers of wigs,
here are 7 fun ways to get down and burn big:

TENNIS = 470 calories per hour
5K Race = 460-680 calories per hour
Gardening and Yard Work = 210-360 calories per hour
Frisbee Golf = 220 calories per hour
Cycling = 270 calories per hour
Washing Your Car = 250 calories per hour
Trail Hiking = 400 calories per hour

Personally, I’m training for a future 5K.
To burn 680 calories, is what I pray.

But knowing that I don’t sprint that quick,
I pray to burn the least and for no fat to stick.

I’m going into athlete mode and dropping prissy.
Fitness is at hand, come on y’all Let’s Get BUSY.

We can do it together, Lord knows we congregate to eat.
I challenge you each to get on your feet.

For me to lose 12 pounds in a month, could make one feel hazy.
But I promise you I lost 5 pounds just by getting up and dropping lazy.

Kiss-kiss kinfolk, it’s hUMP daY again,
I’m Qui
saying Let’s Get BUSY – let’s tighten up that #WIN!

Think Tank – Swim to Win.

In Communication, Griot, Networking, News, TV Shows on April 14, 2014 at 10:44 am

Screen Shot 2014-04-13 at 4.16.37 PM— Everyone’s original. Each standing out like a soar thumb.
And just because you don’t process like the others DOES NOT mean that you’re dumb.

Go ahead and explore the sea – dive head first into the water.
Here are a few tips from the sharks hip – to help you swim a little harder:

Rule #1.   Stand-Out and Be Untouchable

The “Sharks” on ABC’s hit TV show Shark Tank are known for their killer instincts when it comes to making sharp investments in ideas and the people behind them. Shark investors Barbara Corcoran and Daymond John clearly know a few things about what makes a great business — and a great employee. They shared the secrets to their successful, untouchable careers with Yahoo Finance.

How did you become untouchable?

Barbara: What drives me is the fact that I was such a bad student. In school I couldn’t read or write and I learned shame in the classroom. I was labeled ‘stupid’ and so that takes a long time to get over. And you know what I think, really? I think my passion, my drive and everything I do, I do it to prove again and again, probably more to myself, but I think to the world, that I am not stupid and it keeps me running hard and keeps me insecure enough to run hard. And I have to say, of all the entrepreneurs I invest in on “Shark Tank,” that’s the one trait I’m looking for: insecurity. I don’t want a cocky guy with a big education. I want to get my hands on somebody who’s got something to prove.

Daymond: I always say you are the brand first and put your brand into two to five words…For Us By Us [FUBU] was about a culture. It was always me, I wanted to put quality out there, but I wanted to empower people at the same time, and I wanted it to be fashionable. Your two-to-five words will change over the course of time as you grow and my five words over the last couple years: ‘I’m on a quest.’ It’s simple and plain, you know. I walk in the room like the dumbest person and I’m ready to learn.

.

What makes an employee untouchable?

Barbara: The smartest move you could ever do is hire your opposite. If you know what your given talents are, look for the guy who’s got the other stuff. You don’t need two of you. You need the other guy to work along with you because that’s how you build a business quickly. You’ve got experts on both sides. A great employee in my book, has pride of ownership even though they don’t own anything, they take great pride that they’re part of that business. You can’t put a value on that in an employee. You always want to have someone who’s loyal and when I say loyal, loyal like a brick, because if you’re going to be building a business you don’t want a shaky foundation. So loyalty is essential — not somebody that you’re going to worry about losing next week if they get a better offer. I couldn’t imagine having a team of people who weren’t consistent and with great follow-through. I mean that’s essential, if you have an employee who doesn’t have that, what do you have them around for? You need to have people who love their teammates. The minute you have a show-off who wants to take credit, you have a weak team. You need to have people who all treasure and respect their teammates. It’s wonderful if you have an employee who’s willing to fail. You know what that brings? It brings confidence to the table, they’re willing to fail and then they discover new things. You can’t be the chief idea person in a large business, you need people who are constantly generating ideas and those are the people who are not afraid to fail because it takes a lot of flops to come up with one good idea.

Daymond: The employees knows they’re dispensable. Energy. Very good at communicating and working with others. A problem solver who will figure it out first and if they can’t figure it out come to you with, “Hey you know what? We have a problem I haven’t been able to figure it out, but these are 3 or 4 options that I’m thinking about.” A visionary/team player that’s not just me, me, me.

How did your failures make you untouchable?

Barbara: Every single great thing that ever happened to me happened on the heels of failure, without exception. I remember when I lost my voice at my first speech. I was devastated, mortified I didn’t think I’d go out. But it was by teaching a night course for a small group of students to get over my fear of public speaking that I met the best salesperson that was ever going to enter the New York City real estate market: Carrie Chiang. If I hadn’t gotten over my failure, I would not have had that.

Daymond: Well, mom always taught me, “You don’t get rich off your day job, you get rich off your homework.” And what she basically said was you know, [at] your day job you’re working on somebody else’s dream and I understand you have to do that because you have to pay the bills, and you have to also learn and come up in the business. But if you think it’s scary to be an entrepreneur and work on your dream, how much scarier or how much more frightening is it to work on somebody else’s dream and they may end up making the wrong decision and getting rid of you? So do me a favor, always have a day job, and if you have to put in an hour at night, or an hour a week or a month on a new project that you like, that you love, that you really, really believe in, after a while that’s going to compound and after a year, two years, three years, five years, you’re going to have 300, 500, 900 hours in there. If you continue to have that discipline, that means you really like it. That means you’re really attracted to it and sooner or later that effort will start to pay off way more than the current effort of your day job. I tried about 6 or 7 times with little businesses but every business, I either didn’t have the passion and I left it, or I failed. But I learned so much, and then all of a sudden came FUBU.

________ [Ref. Source: Yahoo]

I’m so grateful to know of Barbara and Daymond and the way that they paint the scene,
I’m definitely a go-getter/motion hitter! It’s exactly how I do my thing.

I enter the room of elites with everything I have about me,
then lay all out in intricate fashion – reel reasons to bet on Qui.

It sounds easy and it is. It’s just like Barbara said,
You have the right to air your plight. Build support up in your head.

Don’t be confused dear child. No one’s ISO a mental case.
Though please believe, like the other elite, you have a right to be in that place.
