Feeling Virgo’ish

virtuosity

Good morning goodness. How did you slumber?
Me? Like a baby; 40’s my sleep number.

Quick I am to rise today; quick I am to get out into the streets.
For I have four filming assignments in Comp & Visual Design that I must meet.

And shortly thereafter, I will have to edit the scenes and upload them to the student portal.
I’ve been doing the most, “me time” has been ghost; still life is good for a film student mortal.

F5F_Bday2018Today is a day of virtuosity; it is the month of Virgo
and today is the birthday of our beloved Fab5Freddy, yo!

It’s good to know that the years can roll in and not take your youth out.
Heck! That’s what artistic and reel living is really about,

so I’m going to follow Fab5’s lead and stay steady; continue to learn and evolve.
I’m going to enjoy this Friday as another high day and conquer it with dutiful resolves.

The day is waking up nicely from the view of my window.
It’s dark inside, except for my laptop’s light and of course my inner glow.

It’s really good to be alive, yo. Take a deep breath and say a prayer.
Then walk outside and face life with every intention to care.

intent.jpg
Follow through;
They’re good for you.

This day was made for mindful celebrations and it rightfully belongs to the Virgo.
I’m Qui
Good morning to thee, reflect virtuosity and make today a beautiful show.

Your life is a canvas. What would you like us to know?body-painting.jpg

Key BLACK HISTORY Subjects: VIRGO

ahh-at-last.png When it comes to the depths of noir intellect, Hast thou met a Virgo?‘ Astrologically, they are the 6th sign of the zodiac. The only sign that resembles self sufficiency, (in my opinion). You have seen her, haven’t you?

She’s packing wheat and how she makes bread – be it in the oven or the bank – she is by default, equipped with the resources and capacity to do so. Therefore in the spirit of refined resourcefulness I’d like to showcase two “bread makers” that are and have been instrumental in my professional and personal life. They are teaching me to fish and make bread. Maybe they can help you out too:

Tricia & Jacob Miles @ U.S. China Film .jpg

JACOB R. MILES.  An executive with engineering, operations, sales experience in the media, entertainment and automotive industries. Experienced with start ups, development stage, emerging growth and Fortune 500 companies. His KEY focuses lie on improving and leveraging the synergies within organizations to achieve operational excellence and growth. Jake deals in technology, operations (domestic & international), digital media, internet sales, licensing, intellectual property development. He’s a great asset in assignments for business owners, officers & directors, investment bankers, investors looking to grow, restructure, reignite portfolio companies.

Always about his research, Jake is also notably a business analyst, New Media integrator, consultant and speaker on diversity, entrepreneurship models, technology & strategy with solutions that power growth. Jack up your profits with Jake,” is my motto for him — ask George Lucas.

This was my beginning. How awesome is that? The #BlackHistory that shaped me…

As tough of an act as Virgoan Jake is, fate introduced me to:

fab5freddy-jan-2016-usherFREDRICK “Fab 5 Freddy” BRATHWAITE.  In the late 1970s, Freddy became a member of the Brooklyn-based graffiti group The Fabulous 5, known for painting the entire side of New York subway cars. Along with other Fabulous 5 member Lee Quiñones, under his direction they began to shift from street graffiti to transition into the art world and in 1979 they both exhibited in a prestigious gallery in Rome Italy, Galleria LaMedusa. In 1980, he painted a subway train with cartoon style depictions of giant Campbell’s Soup cans,[1] after Andy Warhol. He was the bridge between the New York uptown graffiti and early rap scene and the downtown art and punk music scenes. “I was bringing the whole music, hip-hop, art, break dancing and urban cultural thing to the downtown table,” he said.

At the end of 1980, Glenn O’Brien cast Freddy, along with fellow Lower East Side graffiti writer Lee Quiñones, in the film New York Beat (later released as Downtown 81). That film showcased artist Jean-Michel Basquiat in his Lower Manhattan environment and the culture that surrounded it. Shortly after, Freddy began production along with filmmaker Charlie Ahearn on his film Wild Style (1982), which showcased artist Lee Quiñones in the Uptown, Manhattan environment of the Bronx and the music that surrounded it.  Fab continues to inject dopeness into the art and film industry to date. Peep his wikipedia, yo!  He is HIP HOP and he DON’T STOP.

decorative-line-divider1

I met Jake in 2004 after writing my first film script.
Film officials ‘came for me’ — ’twas massive business; it was a hit!

Head spinning and ‘financial prospect’ grinning – I was head over heels
that’s  when Jacob came in to separate fiction from reel.

He authenticated the feel, we discussed the depths of the game & being more fiscal.
He advised me to continue to write, get a website and crank out more scripts for maximum residuals.

So I submitted to creativity and literally did –
then my writes via an online site found Fab in 2006.
FANTASTIC!

He challenged my mind and emboldened my cool
and recommended of me a little more school.

Knowledge is the golden rule – my talents only opened the door.
Fab5Freddy has been an instrumental player in my bad-arse knowledgeable scores!

Research and application always yield me soar. The strength of; I love the feel.
Being mentored by Fab I gave full production ‘a dap’- and acquired the capacity to reel.

With the website, the schooling and equipment in place,
My future of reel capacity has a productive dimensional face.

And I’m off to the races, my future is bright as I fully embrace life’s mystery.
The guides that said “GO!” were both VIRGO’s and awesome contributors to BLACK HISTORY.

When you are planning your life, plan to be surrounded not by nay sayers.

And Today is

In Communication, Griot, Music, News, TV Shows on August 31, 2020 at 5:48 am

Today is the beginning of another week of winning. I’m an early bird on the grinning, due to my nocturnal dream and the romp-winning

that it entailed. I remember doing kegels and parallels. Today is going to be swell; I’m happy to be alive and I hope that you’re well.

Do tell if you watched the VMA awards? Were you satisfied with the winners and did the musical acts go hard?

I didn’t watch it, but I read all about it. Headlines say ‘Gaga was the  -ish, and I don’t doubt it.

The Weekend took home video of the year; best composition of scene — Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande took home best video during quarantine.

KeKe Palmer was the show host, I do enjoy her vibe. I hate I missed the VMA’s; headlines read like it was live.

And Today will exceed the weekends hype because you’ve got your health and you’re still alive.

I’m up early feeling a party-type vibe. In the season of Virgo I’m thinking of Fab5.

Today is his annual born day; in essence his pre-party was the VMA’s.

Michael Jackson‘s born day was 2-days ago and Bey’s birthday will be in fo.’

Virgo, o’ Virgos, we love you so. Your perfection plays out well in most award shows.

And so today will surely follow the Virgoan suit. Power to the people who bear wheat and produce fruit.

Happy Monday to you, as well as to all of the zodiac signs,

I’m Qui

And Today’s Virgo breeze is the best of its kind!

A SIGN of the WHO

In Comedy, Communication, Griot, News on April 8, 2020 at 5:28 pm

Chocolate.gif

We’re all different but the same.

When is your birthday and what is your sign?
Which one is responsible for your irresistible shine?

For such queries, I turn to my character bible – on a dime.
For therein, I lace up characters traits by divvying them a sign.

Most times if I’m in a bind and I need a resourceful cat to rise,
I make the character a Sagittarius with alluring and captivating eyes.

Do you write? If you do, you’re probably a romantic with a huge ego.
I’d also be willing to bet, that you, my dear, may be a Leo.

Or I’ll assume that you know of one.
Leo’s are sunny and encompass bold fun.

Though, if you’re shy from being loud and still manage to draw a crowd every where you go,
you, o’ charming one may be a Virgo.

Picky, picky, you are and like the Leo mentioned before you,
feline are particular indeed but even they can’t resist to adore you.

Leo’s are picky and particular but when it comes to tact they can fall prey ‘to forgo.’
Tact is a built-in trait, that is often present in the Aquarius flow – and I love them, yo.

mixed-bag-of-nuts.jpeg

Mixed Bag of Nuts

Don’t you?
For their dearest friends there’s little that they wouldn’t do.
Aquarius’ love Leo’s and that’s good because Leo’s love them, too.
Ooo.

If I’m looking for a strong fire; an interactive tease,
I tend to script the dominance of those towering Aries.
Ooo wee.
Do you have an Aries in your life? I have a 3.

Are you one to fall for the melodramatic and emotions of the sea?
Then you might be a fan of the 2-fish-band Pisces.

They are soft-hearted, fun, giving and open.
They don’t mind crying, wallowing and mopin.

Their easy going nature is good for intimate goatin.’
If crafting a character with underlying motives, I make him a blowfish.

I love a person that comes with their own side,
therefore, when I think double-stitch, I think Gemini.

Double-stitch on an Italian shoe looks good and on most leather goods – it is word,
but if you’re looking for smart and practicality – then Capricorn is verb.

They are sweet and sour; yield depth and power. Capricorn’s rarely take NO for an answer.
And that vibes well with depths of the “VIP Cancer.”

mixed-bag-of-potatoes\.jpg

They’re different but the same.

When it comes to being aristocratic, Cancers own the slot,
They can thrive in a barrel of chaos, where Libra will not.

Chaos throws the scales off balance and vision gets hazy,
scripting a Libra is favorited for the charmed, the romantic and crazy.

Leo’s are crazy too, as are those duplicitous Gemini’s,
but no one is more consistent than Scorpio on the stinging rise.

Do you love a Scorpio? I love several,
I script these personalities if I want to chase off the devil.

They can be some stern folks, and that ain’t no bull.
Speaking bull from shoes to attitude Taurus‘ arsenal is full.

So when scripting a character who walks boldly and cares not to fold,
Taurus comes to mind and their shoe game is always gold.

taurus_Chris-Paul_NBA.jpg

Chris Paul is a TAURUS. Who knew? #ShoeGame

We’re all different but the same
and it’s fun to identify with a zodiac name.

So, When is your birthday and what is your sign?
I’m Qui
Loyal to the soil, Leo is my sign and I’m big on playtime.

The Harlem Renaissance

In Communication, Griot, News, Self Improvement on February 12, 2019 at 6:41 am

Harlem Renaissance Players

“…Our problem is to conceive, develop, establish an art era. Not white art painting black…let’s bare our arms and plunge them deep through laughter, through pain, through sorrow, through hope, through disappointment, into the very depths of the souls of our people and drag forth material crude, rough, neglected. Then let’s sing it, dance it, write it, paint it. Let’s do the impossible. Let’s create something transcendentally material, mystically objective. Earthy. Spiritually earthy. Dynamic.”Aaron Douglas

The Harlem Renaissance was originally called the New Negro Movement – a literary and intellectual era that birthed a new black cultural identity in the 1920s and 1930s.

Alain-Locke-Harlem-Renaissance.jpg

Alain Locke

Critic and teacher Alain Locke (a meticulous Virgo) described it as a “spiritual coming of age” in which the black community was able to seize upon its “first chances for group expression and self-determination.” Racism was rampant and economic opportunities were scarce therefore creative expression was one of the few avenues available to African Americans. The Renaissance was primarily literary while the birth of jazz is generally considered a separate movement—the Harlem Renaissance, according to Locke, transformed “social disillusionment to race pride.”

W. E. B. Du Bois (the encouraging Leo) was a Black historian, sociologist, and Harvard scholar. He was at the forefront of the civil rights movement at this time. In collaboration with a group of prominent African-American political activists and white civil rights workers in 1905, Du Bois met in New York to discuss the challenges facing the black community. Four years later the group founded the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), to promote civil rights and fight African-American disenfranchisement.

Charles-S-Johnson_Harlem-Renaissance

Charles S. Johnson

Black-owned magazines and newspapers flourished, freeing African Americans from the constricting influences of mainstream white society. Charles S. Johnson (a literary Leo – like myself) owned Opportunity magazine which became the leading voice of black culture, and the leading publisher of W.E.B. DuBois’s journal, The Crisis.

Jessie-Redman-Fauset_Harlem-RenaissanceWith Jessie Redmon Fauset (a steady Taurus) as its literary editor, she launched the literary careers of such writers as Arna Bontemps (the Libra perfectionist) , Langston Hughes (the hospitable Aquarius), and Countee Cullen (the “me first” Aries).

Jamaican-born Marcus Garvey began his (Leo courageous) promotion of the “Back to Africa movement.” Garvey founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL), which advocated the reuniting of all people of African ancestry into one community with one absolute government. The movement not only encouraged African-Americans to come together but to also feel pride in their heritage and race. Marcus was known to hold ‘unity’ meetings in Harlem from time to time – including at the current residence of Fab5Freddy ( the analytical Virgo). It’s good to know that the future of our history remains positively in progress.

Claude-McKay_Harlem-Renaissance.jpg

Claude McKay

A (Virgoan) poet/novelist Claude McKay is published in the magazine Survey Graphics as a literary reflection of the movement in Harlem, along with Jean Toomer (the ambitious [ethnic mixed] writer and philosopher Capricorn) and the (charismatic Gemini) painting artist Aaron Douglas. Survey Graphics was edited by black philosopher Alain Locke, the magazine featured a plethora of works by prominent black writers of the time period.

James Weldon Johnson was a (Gemini) poet, editor, and civil rights leader, who wrote about Harlem during the 1920s in his autobiography, Along This Way (1933). He described it as the era “when Harlem was made known as the scene of laughter, singing, dancing, and primitive passions, and as the center of the new

Negro literature and art; the era in which it gained its place in the list of famous sections of great cities”. The Making of Harlem, is an article written by James Weldon Johnson, which was published in The Survey Graphic Harlem Number (March 1925) – the article has since ’gone global’.

Zora Neale Hurston (the literal & profound Capricorn) contributed four novels and more than 50 published short stories, plays, and essays to the credit of the era. She is best known for her 1937 novel “Their Eyes Were Watching God”. In a letter to Countee Cullen, Zora wrote:

“I have the nerve to walk my own way, however hard, in my search for reality, rather than climb upon the rattling wagon of wishful illusions.”

I agree with Zora as well as all of the artists that were involved in the movement & had great plans for the future. They thought that they could change the world and prevent racial prejudice with their literature and art, and this cultural conviction was taken more than less seriously. Even though we can look back now and see that their hopes were highly optimistic, it doesn’t change the fact that some of the best known African American Authors came from this period. Many wrote in Harlemese; meaning they wrote as they spoke – broken English and all. Zora Neale Hurston was one of the many authors during the Harlem Renaissance that wrote and spoke the lingo. Zora was a southern woman, born in the South but birthed in Harlem….again, much like myself.

The Harlem Renaissance era started this literal revolution that I stand on today. The Negro Movement has evolved over the last 90 years. I can truly say — what our ancestors put in place less than a century ago is still serving us today.

Literal, Black & Creatively Expressing,
I’m Qui (a word witty Leo she)
The Harlem Renaissance era is my current blessing.

Brutally honest folks who mean well should consider the following information before each honest delivery:

“Truth and honesty without compassion is brutality.”

decorative-line-divider1

I suppose I should know,
I’m an honesty-wielding Leo.

Yessir, and yes ma’am, -I’m confessing to you kinfolk:
with retrospection and honesty, I can impale another’s throat.

I often preface  though, “the following won’t be pretty, but it is honest reality…”
Often times the receiver is their best amen choir & believer – and may get mad at me.

Everybody wants honesty but not as it pertains to what they (themselves) do.
Right?
I cannot nourish your plight and recommend A FEW GOOD MEN for movie night –
because “you can’t handle the truth.”

I dig ol’ Bader Ginsburg, Ruth and McKinnon, Kate of SNL.
When it comes to lasting impersonations, Kate brings the judicial hail.

Still, I’ve always known that my most honest deliveries could use a little more tact.
I thank my mom for my compassionate heart and my dad for holding nothing back.

I am indeed Redd’s daughter; I am honest and I preface – please do not take offense.

What show was I watching? Well, now that’s a good question.

If you’re not a sugar-coater of truth, does this quote at all apply to you?

It is with great pleasure that I ink a write on this lady of vital historical reference: Ms. CICELY TYSON. Growing up you could not tell me that this woman’s name was not Ms. JANE PITTMAN. Seeing her in other movies only shaped my believe that Ms. Jane Pittman was also an actress. 😀 But indeed Ms. Jane Pittman is a fictional character and Ms. Cicely Tyson is the real life deal.  I love her and her contributions have not gone un noticed though not always awarded either.

She was nominated for the Academy and Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress for her performance as Rebecca Morgan in Sounder (1972). For this role she also won the NSFC Best Actress and NBR Best Actress Awards. She starred in The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman (1974), for which she won two Emmy Awards and was nominated for a BAFTA Award.

During her career she has been nominated for twelve Primetime Emmy Awards, winning three. In 2011, she appeared in the film The Help, for which she received awards for her ensemble work as Constantine from the BFCA and SAG Awards and she has an additional four SAG Award nominations. She starred on Broadway in The Trip to Bountiful as Carrie Watts, for which she won the Tony Award, Outer Critics Award, and Drama Desk Award for Best Actress in a Play. She previously received a Drama Desk Award in 1962 for her Off-Broadway performance in Moon on a Rainbow Shawl.
