Raping the DELTA SIGMA THETA’s

In News on October 24, 2011 at 10:53 pm

OMG! I just read an article about a serial rapists that’s on the prowl in Dallas County. He’s not prowling for just any type of woman, but a DELTA SIGMA THETA woman, and what’s worst, he’s targeting sorority alumni’s in their 50’s and 60’s? What the Ooo-oo-oop?

“Ooo-oo-oop!” is the sound that the Delta’s make while thrusting thier two hands forward making a triangle shape. Have you ever seen/heard of it? More over — Have you ever seen/heard of the suspected rapist? If you have, let him know the Dallas County Police are looking for him. I read about the story on BlackVoices.com. Speaking of BlackVoices…when did AOL acquire BlackVoices.com? Suddenly all of the community bass has been replaced by a corporation of people…kind of like BlackPlanet.com. Isn’t there any black authentic sites anymore – besides mine? My curiosity respectfully takes a back seat to the column at hand:

Rapist Targeting Delta Sigma Theta’s — Over the last 11 months, four women in the Dallas area have been raped in their homes, and their attacker seems to have been targeted them because they were members of Delta Sigma Theta, one of the nation’s prominent African-American sororities.

The most recent attack took place on Friday in the town of Corinth, TX. All of the victims are in their 50s and 60s, and were assaulted at night between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. The attacker revealed personal details about each of the women, leading authorities to suspect they are looking for one attacker.

The police have asked two local alumni chapters to turn over their rosters, according to the Dallas Morning News.

“While it is not yet confirmed that these victims were targeted because of their affiliation with the Sorority, we are erring on the side of caution and are advising our members in the Dallas area to take the necessary precautionary measures,” Cynthia Butler-McIntyre, the sorority’s national president, said in a statement. “To think that our members are being targeted is disturbing and extremely disheartening. Until the individual responsible for these crimes is brought to justice, we will continue to remain in close communication with one another and law enforcement officials in the respective jurisdictions.”

“It’s very unusual that this guy would target people from that sorority,” a forensic psychologist told the Denton Record Chronicle. “It certainly sounds like he has some beef with that sorority.”

The police have released video of a man believed to be connected to the attacks. The suspect is between five-feet-seven inches and six feet tall, and between 275 and 300 lbs. He has a trimmed beard, a short haircut, and possibly a receding hairline.

I didn’t pledge in college. I knew I could do better.
I was down with me-phi-me, my sister pledged DELTA.

I’m concerned about the story because I haven’t read or heard more,

Grateful for Blackvoices.com and curious about the AOL score.

Running the airwaves

Sounds like the music of the summer will be of much tender choices,
We’ve got Beyonce, Kanye & Andre’ resonating through BlackVoices:

BlackVoices.comBeyonce continues to ramp up interest in her forthcoming album, ‘4’, with the release of her latest leaked single, ‘Party.’ The Kanye West co-production features cameos from Andre 3000 and Yeezy himself, and sounds like a potential song of the summer.

Beyonce mailed in an uptempo dance anthem when she dropped ‘Run the World (Girls)‘ and proved that she could emote in true R&B diva fashion with the follow-up ballad, ‘Best I Never Heard.’ But here on ‘Party,’ she nails an easy-breezy, soul vibe on this track co-produced by Kanye West and Consequence.

The laid back jam begins with a subtle Slick Rick sample of ‘La-Di-Da-Di’ and Yeezy sounding like he’s lounging in a beach chair with this sly line: ‘You a bad girl and your friend’s bad too/ You got the swag sauce, you dripping swagu.’

Launching into lyrics about being “so in love” and “music knocking till the morning light,” Beyonce’s idea of a party may have a not-so-innocent double meaning. Yet the track’s bright horn toots and light ’80s-era synths keep it from sounding like anything but a good old time.

Andre 3000, as he does on virtually every cameo appearance, almost steals the show. This time, he unravels a few cocky couplets: “Set the scene, 3000 degrees/ Ain’t worried about those f**k niggas over there, but they worried about me/ I got a homeboy named Butter/ and another homeboy, that nigga named Cheese/ F**k with me baby, I’ll make it milk till it drip down your knees.”

But ‘Party’ is still Beyonce’s show, soaring vocals and all. And the song does an even better job than the two previous singles at stoking anticipation for her upcoming album, ‘4,’ with is set for a June 28 release.

I don’t know about you, but I miss the fore mentioned few.

Afrika Owes will soon “Cash In”

In Communication, Griot, Music, Networking, News on March 2, 2011 at 12:54 pm

Afrika Owes for thug life crimes???

And noshe didn’t win the lottery.

I learned of Afrika’s tale on BlackVoices & I was sobered. Naturally, I had to pass it on. It seems that RAP has birthed some pretty daunting realities for the kids that were raised on countless stories of “coming up in the hood – slanging dope for financial good”. Many took it to heart — and our countrys prisons are bursting at the seams with young African American adults who thought it was a good idea to: play thug.

Next to reside in the joint – Meet: AFRIKA OWES. It’s not a stage name nor is her story unique, but it sure is a huge and sad loss for a race of people to be losing IVY LEAGUE potentials to “the street game” that Jay Z has glorified and makes billions off of.

BlackVoices publishes the details in this scenario of adolescent hell:

Boyce Watkins, PhD recently spoke to a group of aspiring college students in a group called “Black Achievers.” He said, The group invited me to speak, because I talk regularly about the value of education as well as confronting the structural obstacles that make it difficult for our kids to find success.

One thing I brought to the table that the students and their parents might not have expected, though, is the need for us to confront the destructive elements of hip-hop culture, which teach our good kids that “keeping it real” is something that should be done at all costs, even when it causes them to lose their lives.

The reason I brought this issue to the forefront of the discussion was because of young women like Afrika Owes (pictured).

Afrika is a 17-year-old who was once headed to an Ivy League school, but rather than going to anyone’s university, she may be spending most of her adult life in prison.

Afrika was recently arrested for being part of a drug ring controlled by her boyfriend, who allegedly ran the operation from the penitentiary. “Head shots only,” he would reportedly tell her from behind bars as he detailed how he wanted people to be executed.

“She loves him,” a source said in court, “and she’s prepared to adjust her Ivy League dreams around him.”

According to police, Owes and her boyfriend were part of the 137th Street Crew, a gang in Harlem that is being charged with selling crack and other drugs in the community. They were not only charged with dealing drugs, but also with bringing in young women to carry their weapons for them. The men allegedly ran the drug operation from Rikers Island prison.

“She’s a good girl,” said Karen Owes. “This may be what’s happening right now, but we’re going to get through this …She’s well-liked and well-loved.”

Afrika is hardly the kind of young woman you’d expect to be involved in any kind of illegal activity. She’d won a poetry contest and a scholarship to Deerfield Academy, a prestigious prep-school with a tuition cost of $43,800 per year. She was also a vocal member of the school’s Black Student Coalition.

“She was a highly ambitious girl,” said prep school pal Lotanna Uzo. “Everybody knew who she was. Everybody liked her … always had a smile on her face.”

The indictment, which is 51 pages, presents Afrika in a Bonnie and Clyde role with her boyfriend, Jaquan “Jay Cash” Layne.

Crazy right? Read the remainder of Afrika’s story HERE.

We blamed Boo-Boo’s moma when he went to jail
for raising him in a ghetto, crime infested hood hell.

Who knew we’d be in jeopardy for negating a mention
to the parents of the Ivy league potential who’s now bound for prison?

I’d hate to shallowly think that RAP MUSIC influences all bad –
But is it not true that our society is responsible for glorifying fads?

HIP HOP is not a fad – though it does glorify the nightmare that urban radio is;
Airwaves fancy pushing gutter trash for palm greasing cash – but have no spins for Will.

Wise Hip Hop exists though not supporting it — is the going phenomina.
I know I speak the truth. Ask Mos Def, Jasiri X, Talib and Common.

Afrika Owes is no different from your cousin who was caught selling;
such aspirations pending
could’ve been winning –
though todays headlines are opposite telling.

Why is the thug life so compelling?
Why are Tupac & Biggie eternally resting?

What kind of game did they build – what kind of game did they help sell?
It is our fascination with “the high life” that is sending our children to an early hell.

I ask you — because Afrika Owes is indeed our futures truths,
I’m Qui

and that trash called radio rap – needs to be re-written or perhaps rebuked.

The BABY is HOME!

Carlina White returns home - long after Jaycee Dugard's return

Okay here’s a BIG STORY I didn’t learn about through CNN
after 23 years kidnapped baby is reunited with kin.

Kidnapped from a NY hospital at just 19 days old –
she grew up under a the watch of “a con artists soul”.

She always felt she never resembled her (then current) kin,
so at 16 years old her “SLEUTH SENSES” began to kick in…

This story seemed destined to conclude with a real bad end –
but the 19 day old baby – has returned home, so the DNA family WINS!

I really can’t believe this story’s exposure isn’t bigger
Could it be – because she’s not blonde – no one pulled the CELEBRATION trigger?

Oh who knows and who really cares? I’m celebrating anyhow – and that’s firm.
Along with DUGARDs safe return home – this is another plus under the Obama term.

So all is well in the camp today, but the medias light doesn’t hugely reflect
The over comings that CARLINA WHITE has made to find her birth Mom & reconnect.

Now that the truth has come to light
Will suing the hospital for negligence – be her right?

Jaycee was recently awarded $20 million dollars for the states negligence.
So the prospect of Carlina being compensated may be in order; hence
