Vintage Kindred: SUPERFLY

The film dropped yesterday and I was quick to secure a movie pass.
SUPERFLY must be Shaft‘s nephew – because he kicked a lot of ass.

I’d like to think that he is kin to PROUD MARY; perhaps a nephew?
Though producers and editors really saw this project through.

The dialogue was real and the action was tight.
Superfly may even be kin to Rudy Ray’s Dolomite.

He had a no-nonsense style, Sammy Davis Jr.’s hair, and a winning smile.
He walked smooth and held no punches. Minus the cursing, he’s Samuel L.’s child.

superfly1971_gif.gifHe had a lot of structure in and around the hood.
There were chickens, strip clubs, and clip-ins;
as well as police officers up to no good.

The chickens are what steadied Super’s game.
Those chickens were cocaine.

Superfly had a mentor, his name was Scatter.
The way the cartel did him, equated to “life doesn’t matter.”

It was a reel hairy scene; in fact, there were several.
It was a non-fiction thing – so no vampires or werewolves.

tenor.gifTrevor Jackson. Who is he?
He’s the actor that played the principal lead.

Good looking and skills on poise.
I’ve seen Trevor in a few other things,
tho SUPERFLY heightens his talented noise.

Outkast’s Big Boy is in the film
He’s strong in character and keeps it real.

I like the 1970’s remake; it’s taken on a 2018 appeal.
Sex, drugs, and strip clubs — the situational composition was real.

The dialogue and story-line were easy to follow; Superfly moved with intent.
Though we didn’t see much of his family or how his pre-teen years were spent.

The film does, however, take a brief look inside
of Sup’ slinging jeers in his teen years
rendering the spoils to Scatter’s car – outside.

The flow of information is live and the cast comes through easy.
Rick Ross plays a local chickens boss — his performance was breezy.

Chris Brown was in the film but he didn’t sing any hits last night.
He was in an all-white suited gang; he danced at his characters exit of life.

This is not an upbeat film; it’s action-packed and entertaining.
It doesn’t glorify drugs but reminds us of what’s remaining.

Before Oxycodone took the spotlight, folks were getting high and horrifically locked up.
Superfly stayed in the cocaine game a little while, but not long enough to get boxed up.

In that sense, his journey was a sketchy one that delivered him like many real-lifer’s, I’m sure.
Morris Day - hair.jpgSuperfly did his thing — but selling chickens isn’t a successful entrepreneur’s cure.

And his hair? Oh dear God, Trevor Jackson has duly learned
that his fly hairdo was inspired by Morris Day  – The Time crew.
Kin to Sharpton and Brown, he sports a perm.

I loved it. Superfly is a hustler and the soundtrack did not disappoint.

The jams of this film were by one of its producer’s; they are FUTURE anoints.

Are You Not Entertained

In Communication, Griot, Music, News, TV Shows on March 19, 2014 at 6:19 am

Lion tamer — I am so very entertained, and long after the cameras have stopped rolling. Obviously.

So the Nina Simone biopic never did get the green light to hit the air,
but worry not, for to Zoe Saldana, Hollywood remains favorably fair.

The industry buzz is, that she’s up – to star in a different biopic.
This time Zoe will portray the banging hay-day of Ms. Eartha Kitt.

It seems the announcement of Eartha’s biopic didn’t cost the project as much
loss-of-love due to the non-black-principle-role-casting stuff.

Yet, for all of the still shots from the Nina biopic – one would think the film would be ready,
but when you don’t poll family and friends at the projects begin, things could easily become less steady.

Speaking of family, Master P is having trouble with his estranged wife,
as she gives statement to the press that she’s living a paupers life.

She and Master P are no longer an item – this fact is not hid.
It is also true, that Mrs. P was the guardian of 4 of their kids.

And something else about ‘needing support’ and someone said ‘no way,’
then someone stormed out yelling, ‘you’ll rue the day!’ – I paraphrase,

but don’t take my word for it, the horses mouth always says it better.
Curious as to who said what? Read Master P’s open letter:
Master P's OpenLetter

Now Master P may not get out of this so easily. After all she is his wife.
And by the law of many states, community property is a part of his life.

Chris Brown has no children to support and that’s a good thing,
right now he needs to self preserve and concentrate on his ‘sing.’

It seems he and Justin Bieber have quite the testosterone motor,
the two of them on a reluctant whim, are filling Cali’s court and taxing quota.

Entertainment is all around us, whether behind closed doors or in the public square.
It is constantly being broadcasted over radio and television air.

No matter how much air space we utilize mayhem is always on the rise.
And I’m more than a little concerned about the plane that we’ve lost in the skies.

Where is Malaysia flight 370? Where in the world could they have gone?
Did a sky portal open up and take them or did it land in brush, overgrown?

Could the pilot and/or co-pilot have pulled some sort of theft and hostage situation?
This is turning out to be a real mystery page-turner – I’m so following the investigation.

I don’t know yo!  I really don’t know,
but Diddy’s babys moma may have to go.

She’s in a bit of a crunch, a financial bind,
to the tune of a ‘$622K back mortgage‘ chime.

Much like Master P’s wife, but Diddy never married this lady.
She was just the woman he knocked up and then put up, because she had his baby.

The baby is 21 years old now. The baby is fully – a grown man,
And Diddy doesn’t feel responsible to put more dough on that piece of land.

She thought he ‘wouldn’t stop – because he couldn’t stop,’
but that was just a line he used to build chic stock.
Gosh her past really rocked!

I’m not being cold, I’m just making fun.
I’d be thrilled if Diddy broke her off some.

I’d be thrilled if Master P spoiled his wife too,
and I’d be giddy if politics were based on truths.

Oh you! For a Feel Good Feeling – I tend to go far,
even farther than folks do, for that Klondike bar.

But I don’t make the news, I’m just chopping it up with you,
I’m Qui
it’s HUMP DAY baby – thanks so much for coming thru. Ooo!

BET’s Impressive Beat

Well, Moma always said, “You can’t keep a good Chris Brown [man] down”.
His tribute was dead on and rather eeerie — if nothing else, can we give him a pound?

Not the kind that hurts, but the kind that inclusively loves.
I’m sure MJ himself was impressed – with his technique, courage and glove.
LOVED IT!

I was surprised to see El Debarge & (it’s about time we hugged) Kanye West.
An insightful hue and cool review was posted by The Associated Press:

LOS ANGELES— It was comeback night at the BET Awards.

Kanye West opened Sunday’s show in his first TV appearance since dissing Taylor Swift at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards. T.I. made a triumphant return to TV for his first performance since being released from prison in December. And 1980s hitmaker El DeBarge blazed back onto the stage to play old hits and the title track from his first new album in 16 years.

But most unexpected was Chris Brown, who offered an emotional tribute to Michael Jackson.

The embattled pop star has mostly kept a low profile since pleading guilty to felony assault for beating up Rihanna in February 2009. But here he was, center stage, mimicking Jackson’s signature dance moves with almost eerie accuracy. Introduced by Jermaine Jackson, Brown embodied the King of Pop, wearing his fedora and spangled glove and moonwalking across the stage to “Billie Jean.”

Then, as Brown grabbed a microphone to sing “Man in the Mirror,” he broke down in tears. His voice cracked, he couldn’t sing, and at one point he crumpled to the stage in apparent agony. It was a moving moment made even more so by the song’s lyrics and his own recent past.

The 21-year-old returned to the stage later to apologize to his fans.

“I let you all down before, but I won’t do it again. I promise you,” Brown said.

Performances were so plentiful during the 3 1/2-hour show that prizes were almost secondary. (click here to continue the column read…it gets hotter!)

It was truly a night of loving, coming-up-together and looking smart,
I’m Qui
Feeling MJ today and glad we’re back to LOVING – ’cause LIFE is SHORT.
