Encourage Yourself

In Communication, Griot, Music, Networking, Self Improvement on June 15, 2011 at 8:38 am

Ain’t nothing to it, but to do it.
Let Miss Kierra help you through it –
in a cappella

Affirmations are a wonderful way to start your day. Look in the mirror and tell yourself what you want the days outcome to be.

Congratulate yourself on getting that new account, on your way to the meeting.

There used to be a COGIC song we used to sing back in the day in choir that said,

Don’t wait until the battle is over to ‘shout now’ –
You know in the end you’re going to win!

I took the words to heart. I’m always in a WINNING MOOD. No – I’m not narcissistic, but I am delightfully optimistic at all points. I’m soooo into ENCOURAGEMENT. I get a kick out of encouraging others as well as myself…in the end it gives me more to be happy about, (basking in the success of others with them – as well as in my own successes).

Today is Wednesday – be encouraged to follow through
Today is Your Day – Do what you want to do.
It’s a new day begin
It’s your time to win.

Be encouraged and definitely stay down with QE,

News Peruse

You know how I do enjoy doling out digital television views,
So oblige me and enjoy ‘FOX & The BILL‘ in a short News Peruse:

The season premier of GLEE ran tonight
And yes – I was the Gleek’iest chic onsite.

I was jammin’
their version of Jay Z and Alicia Keys’ “NEW YORK” –
Arty continues to roll in as the banging hip hop sport – His capacity isn’t short.

I’d also have to say he did TRAVIE MCCOY more justice than fair
when he rolled out the rapping hook to the joint “BILLIONAIRE”.

Sunshine [Charice Pempengco] joined the cast of Glee and “found her own”.
She’s the young asian teen, whose voice sounds ‘soulfully black and grown’.

NEWS out of Atlanta is charging some pretty nasty wrongs
About teen boys being cohersed into sex with Pastor Eddie Long.
What’s really going on?

Time will soon tell…
and arse holes will smell.

More on Real Time’s Bill Maher
Because his LKL interview was on fire:

Bill Maher on President Obama [Democrats & whether people trust the government]

Larry states: A new CNN opinion research poll says 25% say they trust the federal government to do what is right – most of the time. What does that say Bill? “It says more people are trusting than should be. Considering what our government has done lately – but on the other hand the Democrats who have had a pretty successful legislative season don’t get credit for it. Because it hasn’t reached people yet – I mean, the big one is HEALTHCARE and as soon as it passed Obama went up in the poles because ‘people love a winner’ Larry. If Tiger Woods had come back and won The Masters he could have murdered those women. But you know it kind of faded because the benefits of the program haven’t been felt yet. And there was a report out today that said it really isn’t going to pay for itself“.

Larry inputs: But the car companies paid back their loans and they’re selling cars and so on… “Right and they also passed FINANCIAL REFORM and they eliminated the banks as the middle man for student loans, (which was long over due). The Democrats are very bad at selling their own product; The Republicans are genius’ at it and I’ve said it before” says Bill, “A bad product well apologized for — is superior in this country to a good product. The Democrats do have a better product as bad as they are. Now it’s unfortunate that they couldn’t have sold what they’re selling better and have better policies.

Afghanistan was a glaring error, I think. First of all Obama just should have had a different policy from the get go. He’s tied to it now, because he ran on it. He should have ran on a policy that said, ‘The Army is the wrong tool to use to fight terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan. Thank you – goodnight’. But now he’s tied to this dumb policy where we’re supposedly committed full force until like 8 months later, when we advertise that we’re pulling all of our troops out. I mean the Taliban have outlasted people for decades and centuries“.

Larry asks: Well how do you defeat terrorism? “You don’t“, Bill says, “That’s the key Larry, you don’t defeat it. You have to understand it’s always with us. It’s like saying how do you defeat crime? You can’t defeat crime“… Larry interjects Violent crime is down in America. “Down. Right and we’ve had terrorism go down. By the way Obama has been president for 20 months and there has not been an attack. Bush was president for 9 months when we got hit. So on that score – Obama’s kept us safer.”

But you’re saying there’ll always be terrorism? asks Larry. “ Of course. Especially when we do things like invade Muslim countries“. Should we not have called it a war on terrorism? says Larry, Because there will not be a victory day? Bill concurs, “ Exactly. We should not have called it a war on terrorism. There will not be a victory day. Exactly. And you know this war in Afghanistan— I never read a good thing about it. The longer we’re there the stronger the Taliban gets. I mean I read bad things about the government of Karzai, I read bad things about the Afghan Army, about the Afghan Police, I read bad things about our soldiers. Of course they’re put in an impossible situation and they’re doing the best they can – they’re very brave but 5 of them are now up for murder charges. I read horrible things about what ordinary people in that country do. They stoned a woman a couple of weeks ago for eloping. For the crime of eloping and this wasn’t just the Taliban. The whole village came out – even her own relatives. That’s got a hurt — a rock comes and it’s from your mom”.

Larry asks about Pakistan. How do we deal with them? “Well we’re not dealing with them“. Bill responds in a discerning voice, “What – you mean because they’re a Muslim country with nuclear weapons? Well that happens while we were trying to get the nuclear weapons that weren’t in Iraq out of Iraq. I think that genie is out of the bottle.

The same thing with Iran – you know we’re obsessed with Iran getting nuclear weapons. You know that’s like a father whose obsessed with his daughter losing her virginity. It’s going to happen. It’s going to happen and you’re going to have to live in a world where it does happen. To give a little perspective I was watching “Day After Tomorrow” [1983] – Do you remember that? It was a huge sensation at the time because we were in a cold war. It was about what would happen if the United States and the Soviet Union wiped each other off. It was chilling because – ofcourse in that era when a nuclear exchange took place it was between two super powers who emptied their arsenal and wiped out the world. We’re not living in that world anymore. Things are actually better. Could a terrorist get a nuke into the port of Los Angeles? Absolutely, but it would probably be just one bomb. As awful as that is. It’s not as bad as when two super powers were facing each other with arsenals”.

Stay tuned for Larry and Bills latest interview conclude,
I’m Qui
bidding you a Happy Hump Day and “Don’t be a Sue“. lol!

Giddy about GLEE

So NERDS are on the rise. Praise God and YIPPEE!!!
My AP Academic kid is stuck on FOX’s show of “GLEE”.

Are you watching? It’s certainly more than an exhibition of thespian/musical nerds. The students that attend the sitcom high school are extremely talented. They’re more like BROADWAY actors in training. Awesome! Let’s meet a few of the stars:

Mercedes Jones [played by Amber Riley] is “diva-in-training who refuses to sing back-up”, with a “flair for fashion”.[Ep.37] In the pilot episode Mercedes auditions for the glee club by performing “Respect” by Aretha Franklin.[Ep.34] Due to Cheerios scheming, Mercedes develops a small crush on Kurt, unaware that he is gay. She is hurt when he rejects her, but Mercedes quickly recovers and she is supportive when he confides his sexuality. After this, the two become especially close friends.[Ep.35] Her father is a dentist.[Ep.38] In The Rhodes Not Taken, when April Rhodes is trying to get the other Glee club members on her side, she teaches Mercedes and Tina how to shoplift, later Mercedes goes to Mr. Schuester with new clothes and accessories saying that they love April.[Ep.22] Dismayed at never receiving solo songs, Mercedes joins the Cheerios along with Kurt.[Ep.28] She briefly dates Puck, but ultimately breaks up with him and quits the cheerleading squad, afraid of turning into someone she does not want to be.

Kurt Hummel [played by Chris Colfer] is a flamboyant singer who is bullied by the football team. In the pilot episode, Kurt auditions for the glee club by performing Mr. Cellophane from the musical Chicago.[Ep.34] Kurt comes out as gay to Mercedes in the episode "Acafellas",[Ep.35] and to his father in the following episode. Kurt has a crush on Finn, and hopes if Finn breaks up with Quinn, he will turn to Kurt for comfort.[Ep.32] He is aware that Rachel also has feelings for Finn, and attempts to sabotage her chances with him by giving her a bad makeover.

Finn Hudson [played by Cory Monteith] is the star quarterback of the school’s football team who risks alienation by his friends to join the Glee Club. Finn “isn’t a dumb jock”, but instead “walks a fine line between following his dreams and balancing what other people expect of him.”[Ep.8] He is dating cheerleader Quinn (whose Prego), and is conflicted by his growing feelings for Rachel.[Ep.14] Finn’s mother then allows Quinn to move in with them.[Ep.32] Finn finds out that Quinn’s baby is Puck’s after Rachel tells him…

Quinn Fabray [played by Dianna Agron] is introduced as Finn’s girlfriend, head of the cheerleading squad and president of the celibacy club.[Ep.27] She is described as Rachel’s enemy, and “terrible, the meanest girl”.[Ep.30] She reveals to Finn that she is pregnant and tells him that the baby is his despite the fact the real father is his best friend Puck.Finn learns from Rachel that Puck is the father of Quinn’s baby. He breaks up with Quinn…

Rachel Berry [played by Lea Michele] is a “strong, driven” member of the glee club, who is misunderstood by her peers.[Ep.20] Rachel is “Not only is she a singer, but she has so much heart — precisely what we need on TV.”[Ep.8] Rachel has a brief relationship with Puck, but ultimately breaks up with him over her feelings for Finn.[Ep.23] She later dates Jesse St. James, the lead singer of rival glee club Vocal Adrenaline, who ultimately betrays her in favor of his club.[Ep.24] Rachel discovers that Vocal Adrenaline coach Shelby Corcoran is her birth mother, but the two fail to forge a relationship.[Ep.25] At the end of season one, she and Finn reconcile and he tells her that he loves her.[Ep.26]

This show is about as riveting as I remember Melrose Place being when I was a teen.
However using pages from current youth phasestotally personalizes the scene.

I would have compared it to the historical teen show: 90210
But the writing, the cast and I never made a connective flow.

Glee is about adolescents channeling their energies positively through their gifts,
I’m Qui
Digging Glee because growing up is still rough – Positive reflections yield positive lifts.

It’s not a conservative show, or a show for the faint at heart
But it is for honest intellectuals who love seeing real life in reflective art.

Next week the NEW SEASON starts:
Tuesday – 9/21 @ 8/7c

I’m fast becoming a Gleek [..ie a Glee Geek].
