Exit – Stage Right

In Communication, Griot, Music, Networking, News, Self Improvement on February 2, 2015 at 11:59 am

Lee Andrew Carter August2014We partied at word of his exit – you could feel the love all-on-ya;
he’s a southern boy at heart, so I put on some Jay Electronica.

Exhibit A is the first song that I jammed and then I moved more into
The jams that Sam Cook, Max Roach and James Brown used to do.

Lee Andrew Carter was an OG – TRUE – and I share his genes.
He was a bit of a fashion guru – he kept his hats and boots clean.

You knew when he was on the scene – Entrance: Stage Left
Wisdom from Texas to California and he kept it ‘fresh to death.’

He walked an incredible line.
Scaled lifes wall as if he had an ivory vine.
Those genes are mine.

He taught me a lot about life — “Always on love, do place your bet.”
He was a compassionate man, a soldier, a WWII vet.

A charming man — he maneuvered and contributed to earths scene,
He birthed of his loins Michael Carter, Joe Gordon and Marva Jean.

She was that redheaded queen.

I told her how foxy she was the last time I saw her, here in Cali.
She reminded me of my big sister Yodi and my small framed Daddy.

Lee Andrew had a big impact on the lives of the Gordon 4, I’m kid #2.
We were told awesome tales of how he came, saw and made it through.

1975 California Family Trip

Lee Andrew Carter is at the TOP LEFT hand corner. Qui is located at the bottom middle – right area, wearing a white fur coat.

I first layed eyes on him in 1975.
My fam and I travelled from Texas to the Cali skies
and the world was fine.
Lee Andrew was on shine.
The time was mine.
A babe in his legacy vine.

I was happy, wide eyed and bushy tailed in a white fur coat.
Chinchilla Qui: eyes are still wide but now a lump in my throat.

The time is still mine but the OG who started this family life
has answered his last call and taken the Exit – Stage Right.

That lump in my throat will dissipate
as I continue to revel in the great

legacy that has been laid out for every child: be it son, friend or grand daughter,
Put on your hats, dickies and/or your sharpest boots for OG LEE ANDREW CARTER.

Integrity. Wisdom. Love and Charm.
Death is a part of life. Ring no new alarms.

Please take your place in this DNA family vine
And represent what he taught ya: It’s MILDEW OR BARBEQUE time.

LA wasn’t about mildew, so I reckon we better get to stepping
in love, honor, integrity and truth – the way Lee Andrew Carter was rep’ing.

When it comes to his legacy, to me: It’s EVERYTHING!

Life is a funny thing. Will she be long or short? Who knows. Maybe.
So I live this thing like I’m a child of the queen; the offspring of ol Moms Mabley

Life is stemporary, live well, love many and LAUGH often.

TakeIt2015 entered into my life in full motion
and found me ashless; already lotioned.

No punches have been pulled and I’ve been rolling.
Helping other reel folk — I’m seed sewing.

The world continues to turn and I’ve kept my stride and pace,
Monday will find me at a funeral saying goodbye to my ancestors face.

1/31/15 — he would have turned 90. He served in WWII and shared with me, his genes.
His name was Lee Andrew Carter – I’m his grand daughter and he’ll be missed on the scene.

An OG – if there ever was one, whose mind was clear and whose heart was fair.
Oh no, I wouldn’t dream of not going to the party, thus Monday, I’ll be there.

My desk looks 50/50, nothing is stacked too awfully high,
though I do have a ton of editing to do. #MyLife. I can not lie.

I love it – I’m not kidding. It’s what calms me and keeps me sane.
5-4-3-2-1 Action! I do love my choice of career game.

I lie to you not I have not been watching the news. I ain’t feeling it.
Politics are sold to the rich who don’t know me and are poorly dealing it.

I stay up on all that is necessary, but the rhetoric, I can do without.
Politics is fun but can be over done and has been known to make a few pout.

So, no NEWS PERUSE this time, I’m content and happy in my soul
to talk about the feeling in Phoenix – as we welcome the Super Bowl.

The vibe is pretty easy. I like it, folks are smiling.
The radio boasts of party and hosts – Phoenix is about to be wilding.

I remain happy to be here – I plan on appearing at a spot or two.
Life goes on with the beat and that song, so please enjoy it and do what you do!

Wether you’re pulling for Seattle or New England the game is gonna be a treat.
We anticipate no more Deflate Gate. I pray no one plans to be “the cheat.”

I’ll call no names, because that would be shady.
Good luck to Russell Wilson & ol’ Tom Brady.

It’s time to put my rear in gear: Qui in full:  front and center – in fashion,
‘Looking forward to being party spoiled and bringing ‘that southern girl’ ACTION!

And so today is Friday and the weekend is on us like Ooo Wee!
I’m Qui
Doing me, enjoying the Super Bowl scene and celebrating the life of an OG.

MLK — More Life and Karma

In News on January 19, 2015 at 9:32 am

MLKHappy MLK Day! I hope you have the day off
and are full of good health, with no kind of cough.

I am feeling pretty healthy – I am feeling pretty good.
However, yesterday I lost a soldier in my familial hood.

January 31st would have been the day
that he would turn 90 and we’d celebrate.

My dear friend and grand father crossed over real quick.
He was in perfect health – his exit was old age, not sick.

And THAT — dear friends is how we all want to go.
Living life like Warren Buffet until the end is so.

Life will end and if that is understood,
with each day you make Karma; so do a lot of good.

Plan to go to the Superbowl — and hang out with your friends,
I’ll be in the Phoenix-hood, making memories of good and chillin.’

The weather in AZ is fantastic, in a few months the heat will be a spinner,
right now it’s all good, The Superbowl and Tiger Woods rule the winter.

Congrats to the Patriots and the SeaHawks! Please accept my upside down frown.
I look forward seeing the shine of your beings and celebrating your super touchdowns.

No filming will be done today – I spent the weekend fully behind the reel.
The production is humming, the budget – firmly running. I love the way it feels.

As of today, many have lost it, so be encouraged to )))embrace your being(((.
Raise your cup of juice or jo to the history we know of Dr. Martin Luther King.

If you’re a boot wearer, like myself, or from Funky Town in the Lone Star State,
Celebrate with me, the life of the 90-year old O.G., the captain, a Carter: LA.

Lee Andrew “LA” Carter
January 31, 1925- January 18, 2015

Do some good, let loose and celebrate MLK.
Invest in your karma and help someone out today,
without doing it for pay! 🙂

I think the secret to reaping a long life may lie in how you live,
I’m Qui
Loving on thee. I’ve got a lot of good karma to give.

Celebrate YOU today!
Peace and Blessings – Happy MLK.

I-10 to see 88

In Communication, Griot, Music, Networking, News, Self Improvement, Travel on December 9, 2013 at 5:18 am

Friday morning I arose with spontaneity and rented an SUV then hit I-10 to see my 88-year old grand father.  About an hour and a half on the road and I look over the desert strip no-barrier median and see a large red truck, maybe a GMC, it was thick in body, flipped over on it’s side in opposite traffic, wheels still spinning. The traffic heading in the same eastward direction as the flipped-over truck, is desperately breaking and veering to avoid hitting the cars in front of them. I look back to the truck laying on its side and I see a man lying dead in the left hand lane on I-10 East just feet from the truck in the middle of the road. Someone pulled over and covered him with something from their car. We were in the middle of the desert, no exits or rests stops for mile. I was traveling west – in the opposite direction, I said a prayer and steadied the journey as several cars ahead of me pulled over to bear witness and assist.

We kept it moving.

4 hours later we are standing on Grand Daddy’s porch ringing the doorbell. He answered the door in fedora and ascot fashion. Shoes – sharp.  I was so underdressed in my sweats and bumble bee house shoes however, my bubbly spirit was fabulously on point.

We dined, we talked and stayed up after midnight.
Then we retreated to our bed quarters and slept real tight.

Early the next morning I arose before the sun came up
and dashed out of the house to fetch some donuts.

As each person woke up, I offered fresh donuts in the kitchen
and preceded to set my film camera up – because I was reel wishin.’

With my camera and mics in place on the utility table, TayLer Moore approaches me with inquiry, (TayLer was visiting my grandfather; he’s a member of FingaTip Productions, a neighboring music studio that is inspired by OG music). TayLer is 23, stands about 5’7, golden brown in his completion, a mildly ripped physique, a great set of eye brows and bright smile. He’s in love with hip hop…

Lo and behold, I filmed an interview
with TayLer aka Mundo F. Baby & The FTP crew.

The hip hop interview was impromptu and 88 was all in the background video bombing as he went for his second and third glazed donut. He also came up several times during the interview when we talked about musical inspiration. It turns out that my grandfather was one of the inspirations for FingaTip Productions (FTP) CEO, Mike Carter to get into the music business. Good music sparks creativity and my grandfather plays the piano and organ – both of which are in his home, in front of a large window for all to see & hear when passing by. He enthusiastically plays music that is highly reminiscent of his era. I often close my eyes and listen while imaging being thrown into an intimate jazz/blues bar scene from the early 1900’s. He plays by ear and forgets not a note. I filmed him in action. He’s quite a fascinating man.

He hears well, sees well, walks without a cane or assistance, takes NO MEDICATION, has great conversation and an awesome sense of humor. He’s 88.

The older we get our fragile body starts to break down…
I know that I am blessed to have my agile GrandDad around.

I shot historical footage with  my PANASONIC HVX on P2 cards and 2 other iPhones, (because I wanted b-roll footage). In total, I  shot about 53 minutes worth of reality action. I can’t wait to get it into Final Cut to edit. It was a good shoot.

We then hit 1-10 again on our way back to Chandler, A-Z
It was Dedric, Quoti, Tanner and me.

We saw no accidents and mastered a safe passage as well.
I hit I-10 to see 88, for a very brief spell.

No one lives forever, tho GrandDad makes it looks like ‘maybe.’
I’m Qui
A happy road trip  she, whose clearly, GrandDaddy’s baby.

Take nothing for granted in this fragile life
If you’ve got family living near – take a moment to drop by.
