Monday’s Start

In Communication, Griot, News, Self Improvement on September 24, 2018 at 7:48 am

happy-monday-cats-washing-clothesSo we pick back up from last week.
I love Mondays. A good start is key.

I went to bed early and got up relatively late.
I have quite a bit of production pending on my plate.

How are you, sweetheart? And what have you got up today?
I’ve got shot editing first.. later on, I intend to play.

Work is a necessity. What’s life if it’s not productive?
As far as it goes for folk with self-esteem lows –
Lift up! Tell the lows to ‘suck-it.

Folk who are not high on life will be a drag on you.
On this Monday’s Start avoid all lows in your view.

Life is new again! I’m in it for the lovin.’
I’ve been working Premier Pro and FCPX like it ain’t nothin.’

These are film editing tools that I use;
my knowledge capacity is experiencing a boom!
You should see what I’m doing in Photoshop and Lightroom.
I’m on the uptake! Vroom-vroom! Vroom-vroom!

Today will be a productive party and I will duly play.
I won’t be out in the streets dear sweet, but in the editing bay.

Shout-out to BIG LEO! Thanks for stopping by and ruling the spotlight.
Big Leo is a distinguished man, an Intel friend whose DNA is reel-nice.

I shot a silent film this weekend; there were no words.
Big Leo came in with eyebrows and grins
allowing scripted intentions to be heard.

Thank you for that!
I do love those Leo cats!

I may be a wee bit bias in my heart –
I, too am a Leo and I love a good Monday’s Start.

Today will find me editing footage and framing a view.
Today will also find me watching, thinking and writing about you.

I’m an observative soul; it’s what I do.
I see that the Kavanaugh’s situation is still on the brew.

God bless the man who disrespects and chooses not to recall.
A woman here, a woman there — Kavanaugh’s confirmation is on the stall.

I’m sure it’s an unsettling feeling to be in his position.
The same should be said for the women forced to come forward to mention…

Keep in mind
that justice is just acting blind.

And that’s fine because incivility is nothing new; society plays its part.
The truth won’t be buried, so let us not be in too much of a hurry
on this revealing Monday’s Start.

Above all, be mindful and productive and melee won’t be able to find you.
I’m Qui
Good Morning to thee, let goodness and truth be the force that binds you.

Today is a great day to play it smart.
Opportunity abounds in every Monday’s Start.
Play your part.

When your truth is too true

FACT: The title of this piece was provided by a person who was self-evaluating. And no, the person was not me.

Brutally honest folks who mean well should consider the following information before each honest delivery:

“Truth and honesty without compassion is brutality.”

decorative-line-divider1

I suppose I should know,
I’m an honesty-wielding Leo.

Yessir, and yes ma’am, -I’m confessing to you kinfolk:
with retrospection and honesty, I can impale another’s throat.

I often preface  though, “the following won’t be pretty, but it is honest reality…”
Often times the receiver is their best amen choir & believer – and may get mad at me.

Everybody wants honesty but not as it pertains to what they (themselves) do.
Right?
I cannot nourish your plight and recommend A FEW GOOD MEN for movie night –
because “you can’t handle the truth.”

I dig ol’ Bader Ginsburg, Ruth and McKinnon, Kate of SNL.
When it comes to lasting impersonations, Kate brings the judicial hail.

Still, I’ve always known that my most honest deliveries could use a little more tact.
I thank my mom for my compassionate heart and my dad for holding nothing back.

I am indeed Redd’s daughter; I am honest and I preface – please do not take offense.
I’m Qui
‘loving the honest quote that I heard on TV. I’m working on me and the quote makes good sense.

What show was I watching? Well, now that’s a good question.
This show is the best yo, it’s called MARRIED TO MEDICINE.

The truth and honesty quote is stronger than an espresso brew.
If you’re not a sugar-coater of truth, does this quote at all apply to you?

Merrin Dungey’s Reel’ness

Merrin Dungey.jpgUnbelievable resume! Do you know of any shows that’s Merrin has been cast in? Did you know that she’s in a new series on Fox?

Let me slow down, rewind and reveal that Merrin has been cast in many hit shows that you may have been and still are a fan of. The list includes

merrin_dungy_work2merrin_dungy_work3merrin_dungy_work1
I first remember her catching my eye in the early 2000’s as a cast member in Malcolm In The Middle and then I was fortunate to catch her in an old episode of MARTIN. That was a long time ago. Since then she’s been in many other shows but primarily in a guest role and limited episodes;  most times no more than one episode per hit show. And that’s too bad, because I’ve always enjoyed her. She had an awesome career on ABC’s former series Alias but when it ended Merrin vanished from the weekly broadcast line ups until as of late. Have you heard of Fox’s new series Resident? Merrin Dungey is in it and she’s a mainstay character. Oui!!

About Merrin Dungey in RESIDENT
I have divvied another DVR slot to be spent.

I have not seen it yet, so I’m no selling vein.
Like I told you before I’m not into the ER show ‘thang.

I am a fan of The Good Doctor, the cast is a good mix.
Plus I dig the reeled journey of a Doc whose autistic.

Merrin is a steady actress who has not met the word QUIT!
Therefore I’m pretty stoked that she’s in regular cast on RESIDENT.

Born a Leo, August 6th and in 1971
reaffirms Ms. Dungey is likely a whole lot of fun.

A no-limit journey is definitely a Leo’s sum in life.
I’m Qui
a Leo as well, peeping Merrin’s RESIDENT work on Monday nights.

I’m out here in the mountains, thanking God for life, yo.

Last night I slept like a baby and I’m feeling quite refreshed.
Breakfast will be served on terrace, under sky and birds; the fruit is fresh.

Juice – no pulp and for my jo – no cream.
Yesterday was my born day and this is my scene.

The entire month – I reign as queen; I duly play my part.
I marinate in the moments that do massage my heart.

dope-bday-qui-2016What is it?
Is it a feeling, is it a drug?
Is it addictable, like my )))HUGS(((?

These shoulders shrug, I think it’s an emotion.
I feel dope when I meditate; when I give praise in devotion.

I feel dope when you feel me. I love to connect.
Sometimes dope is vindication after being unjustly vexed.

Dope is your DNA. Look at your hair, skin and nails.
Stay healthy, be fit, shoot “antagony” to hell.

Dope is that good feeling, you want to inhale
when the Doc comes back and says your diagnostic is swell.

I’m on a HIGH. I stay high. I live for the life of it — with no choke.
I’m unlimited in my charted quests; I don’t scare easy. It’s DOPE to VOTE!

There’s always hope in my mind and there’s always room to grow.
Dope is ditching negativity and sticking with those who meet your lobes.

This method is effective MORE than the strongest smoke.
I dig the “intellectual relate” – I give and receive; No choke.

I don’t cough either– I say what I mean,

A Sippin’ Summer

In Communication, fitness, Griot, News, Self Improvement, Travel on August 4, 2017 at 4:30 am

sippin-cup-stirerIt’s hot outside here in Phoenix – triple digits can be a bummer.
I’ve not ever been much of a drinker, but this is A Sippin’ Summer.

And I wonder what’s good at the bar?
I’m a writer, my sport is to “observe” spar.

I can truly sit and sip for hours and if it’s water – I’ve no limits.
Surely you’ve seen writers doing this sort of sport in the special Olympics?

No? Oh. Writers are still to be considered “special folk.”
The day they allow us into the Olympics will be “all that she wrote.”

And so I’ve taken to working-out with intent, again.
My birthday is around the corner and I want to spend

a good deal of time feeling good and having fun.
I think I’ll take to the skies and travel for a new destination sum.

The den of August is a Leo’s YUM!
Meow and Rawr! I love this month!

It’s perfect for Six Flags, it’s perfect for night walks,
it’s perfect for girl time and lots of mimosa talks.

Today is Friday and I feel it in my hair
Creativity consumes my mind, you can see it in my stare.

Get into my glare. Be the muse that fashions the scripted runner.
I’ll be sitting at the bar being true to this Sippin’ Summer.

Don’t you worry about what’s in my glass, I’m grown and uninhibited this month.
It’s water anyway, I need a clear mind to create – So rounds? I buy a bunch.

sippin-summer-Kristen-Wiig-wineIt is that kind of season.
Building writes of excite
is my chief reason.

I’ll be sitting table-side to the bar as I sip.
I won’t be doing it alone, I’ll be sipping with script.

Yes kinfolk, I am pregnant indeed.
The intro pages thus far, are a real steamy read.

I’m still in the build – I’m still in ACT 1.
A well laid foundation won’t easily be undone

and it’s so much fun. I see a little bit of you all in it.
I’ve been sippin’ your flavor, it’s a great way to spin script.

I like the way it tastes, you’ve got bite, you’re a bit of a gunner!
I confess your kool-aid is a hit and provides an awesome Sippin’ Summer.

This must be a fear to those closest to me; their darkened dim
that I would script a story or character that is fashioned after them.

All I can say to that is,

Get over yourself and please do it quick!
You know that you’re
all that – Of course you’re influencing my scripts!

So tell me more …

Please read that as a ‘flattering quip.’ Life ain’t much without diversity.
I blog, you read, WordPress serves the feed – our relationship is a working key

listen-quote-larry-kingI have met some pretty fantastic people online and offline, that have fantastic conversation. No matter what topic we are on, they always have the perfect quips, responses, and quotes on hand. These are the most entertaining persons especially when marinated in wisdom.  Proverbial quotes – I like them. They can be witty, instructional and informational all at once. Wisdom does indeed come with age though I have found divine wisdom coming out of the mouths of babes, on a few occasions as well. That’s the best kind of communicative exchange – when you walk away wiser and proactively in thought.

I was raised in the church and I remember when Paster Floyd G. Taylor would preach and the saints were feeling it – they would belt out encouraging remarks like, “SAY THAT!, Tell the truth! and Amen!” Those are my exact sentiments when I fall into the captive conversation of a well versed conversationalist. Now while I can hold my own in verse, I am always in it to learn so the following quotes are a a mixed bag of wisdom, order and musical fad. All of the quotes are enlightening and much can be drawn from them in comprehension. Let’s take a gander at WHO SAID WHAT:

“I might not be someone’s first choice But I am a great choice. I may not be rich but I am valuable. I don’t pretend to be someone I’m not because I’m good at being me. I might not be proud of some of the things I’ve done in the past, but I am proud of who I am today. I may not be perfect but I don’t need to be. Take me as I am, or watch me as I walk away. Forget yesterday-it has already forgotten you. Don’t sweat tomorrow- You haven’t even met. Instead, open your eyes and your heart to a truly precious gift” – Today
[I found this quote on a BlackPlanet profile page].

“Punks jump up to get beat down!”  – Brand Nubian

“Woman” was the test, but not every woman seemed to qualify. Black women, of course, were virtually invisible within the protracted campaign for woman suffrage. As for white working-class women, the suffrage leaders were probably impressed at first by the organizing efforts and militancy of their working-class sisters. But as it turned out, the working women themselves did not enthusiastically embrace the cause of woman suffrage.”
Angela Y. Davis, Women, Race, & Class

“Bill Cosby is a famous black guy who has a bully pulpit the size of the world; it’s global. He puts his colossal foot on the vulnerable necks of poor people, and as a result of that, we don’t have a balanced conversation.”
Michael Eric Dyson

Nina-Simone-quote1

“Life is a game that must be played” – Fab5Freddy
“Live with a purpose or generally get slayed.” – Qui

ralph-emerson-purpose-quote

I’m definitely into reflections and friends that play that role. I dearly love and value my friends more than gold. I like to think that I’m a simple girl next door, but my astrological sign suggests I that I  may not be so simple at all. I checked in with Yahoo Shine Astrology to see what kind of conversation ‘the stars’ had for a LEO in search of reflection and I found:

weekly-flirt

“You’re deep in thought on Monday and your heart’s about to pound out of your chest. Whenever you get deep in thought lately, you think of one person in particular. You can’t help what they do to you. Tuesday and Wednesday your heart continues to be a major theme — as do affection, magnificence, warmth, etc. You basically feel like you’re in love with this person and you’re starting to feel confident they may like you back. Thursday and Friday aren’t about love at all — they’re about saving money, figuring out your career plans, etc. — but the weekend is wall-to-wall romance. It’s so fun.”

happy divider

Sounds fun and promising enough – I’m certainly up for it.
And if good conversation is lurking in the vicinity, I’ll be trying to score it!

To be bore-ish is no objective of mine.
I prefer to intertwine in the intellect of the brightest minds.

The aforementioned quoted finds were easy to locate.
Each one in some capacity, ol’ Qui can relate.

From Dallas, to New York, to LA, Phoenix and the boot,
I’ve found plenty of good conversation – a good mind is a hoot!

Speak wisdom and knowledge to me and I will belt out: “SAY THAT!
I’m Qui
To the good conversationist: “Oui! Come with it. I do give back!

Though I must confess, I do delight in “the listen.”
From your head to mine – information sparkles and glistens.

Are you in? Are you going?
Are you down with the united sewing?

This moment right here – this moment in time
deserves a griots lay and lots of shine.

President-obama_gangnam-party3

This day today is monumental and like no other
it is the presidential birthday of my all-star Leo brother.

I knew today would be a winner before I hit the door.
Ann Dunhams baby boy, her pride and joy — he’s 54.

He ain’t no kid anymore, but he’ll be always be hers by DNA root.
God bless the presidents parents contribution and bigger ups to Toot!

Toot is what he called his beloved Grandmother who often ran the show.
She died in 2008 but not a minute before she casted her presidential vote.

History is what it is and does so clearly note
that Toot voted for “Barry” before she exited life – yo!

And with that action she was good-to-go and left the fam legacy and Grade A stock,
in the hands of her grandson during his presidential run. Happy Birthday to Toots Barack!

Happy Birthday to the First Ladys matrimonial beau – Sasha and Malia’s dad.
I thank God for those starry nights, and love of heights that Ann and Barack Sr. had.

Today I am glad for the wise bundle of joy that heaven did send.
Today I am proud to say out loud HAPPY BIRTHDAY  Mr. President.

Your service has been outstanding. You reign like a kindred who keeps all sides fair.
Thank you for pushing to stop the life gushing – Thanks for the law of Affordable Health Care.

Party at Pride Rock – todays the day! It’s August 4th!

Turning Molehills into Kilimanjaros

In Communication, Griot, Networking, News, Self Improvement on June 22, 2012 at 2:03 pm

She’s always “in her head” like me.

Stop worrying – Yo!
What are you? A wheat packing Virgo?

It was five minutes past her son’s curfew when “Angela” glanced at the clock. When she called her 16-year old son, Derrick, on his cell phone and got his voice mail, Angela’s thoughts went straight to a scary scenario: What if Derrick ran the car off the road and he’s dead? And some looters stole his wallet? And they can’t identify him, so they don’t know to call me? And he hit someone’s car, that person died, too, and the family is going to sue us, so now we’ll be broke and childless?

We can dismiss Angela’s thoughts as crazy–or we can admit that we have all had moments when our imagination spiraled out of control. Psychologists even have a name for it: catastrophize, you may live or work with someone who does.

Although it sounds like a harmless quirk, it can cause a lot of anxiety, wasted energy and drama. A few years back, I gathered some ideas on catastrophizing from a former professor of mine, Karen Reivich, Ph.D., author of The Resilience Factor. I used those ideas to create a four-step plan you can use to rein in your thoughts before — and even after — they nose-dive into negativity.

Let’s begin::

Catch yourself in the act.
When you’re feeling anxious notice what you say to your self. When that thought first hits, ask yourself, “And then what will happen?” Keep asking yourself that question until you unearth your greatest fear. Bingo–that’s your worst-case scenario.

Once you spot your big fear, ask yourself, “Are my thoughts helping me or hurting me right now?”
Forcing yourself to stop and answer the question can help you see the urgency of changing your train of thought.

Snap out of your spiral by imagining the opposite:
What’s the best-case irrational scenario of what’s about to happen? This is actually fun. For example, imagine that your teen is late getting home because he stopped to help a car-accident victim; your son then saved the man’s life; his wife gave your son a lottery ticket to show her gratitude. Lo and behold, he won a million bucks! He[‘ll be home in five minutes with the good news. Irrational? Yes, but much better than the dead-with-no-ID scenario you had a couple of minutes before.

What’s most likely to happen?
You’ve now cleared the way to tell yourself what’s most logical: “My son lost track of time, his cell phone battery went dead, and he’ll be home in a few minutes. Oh, and he’ll be in trouble too.” In fact, that’s exactly what happened in Angela’s real life scenario.

Of course, bad events sometimes befall us, but writer Mark Twain put it best: “I’ve lived through some terrible things in my life– some of which actually happened.” So rather than obsessing over miseries that may never arrive, use that vivid imagination to design a future that’s worth moving toward.

I kid Virgo’s; They’re perfectionists and usually attractive on the spot.
Unfortunately, for the Virgo, they tend to worry a lot.

I however am a Leo and I too can worry a great deal.
I’ve been known to build a mountain out of a tiny molehill.

My ability to worry is mine alone, (even when I’m being stealth).
Thus this piece isn’t all about you – but about me and myself.

Don’t be catastrophizer. No need in thinking the worst,
I’m Qui
Hoping to better myself
, for everything that it’s worth.

The stress of “the wild guess” – has got to go!
There’s no need in Turning Molehills into Kilimanjaros.
Think of a new scenario!
