Get out of the woods

In Communication, Griot, News, Self Improvement on January 30, 2017 at 7:40 am

the-woodsOne day when I was in 7th grade –
Going to Forest Oak Middle – where adolescents behave,

I was a walker to school and I’d arisen a little late.
Needed to arrive at school on time to keep admin trouble off my plate.

I distinctly remember cutting across a large field
That nearly confirmed Jason and Freddy Krueger were real.

It’s was a very risky feel but had I been late in time
A letter was coming home and Moms would be in my behind.

So I forged ahead in my girl shoes named CANDIE,
With blades of grass between my toes I arrived quick and felt dandy.

candies-shoes

I don’t think they’re #AllTerrain shoes… but they brought me through.

And there across the forested brush was my middle school.
I saw the social clicks: the populars, the jocks and the fools.

Just slightly forward of all of the clicks – towards the curb,
I saw my beloved crew, a pack of Honor Nerds.

And in that pack true concern was active,
I was spotted crowning the forest by Katrinna Mathis!

This was my best girlfriend from the Forest Hill hood,
She yelled out: “Oh God Qui – Get out of the woods!”

GET OUT OF THE WOODS? I suppose it’s the right call.
However I made it to school in record time with no stall.

My feet were a mess – I was delivered by “the walk.”
When traipsing through the woods – I’m focused; rarely balk.

Sometimes life is hairy and sometimes you’re the captain.
I challenge you to rise to the occasion – and forfeit saving cute fashions.

Forego the extras, the boo-boo, the ungroomed -ish…
And find your way through it all. I believe YOU’VE GOT THIS.

I had THAT – the day KAT saw me coming out of he woods.
Though being cared for, if I wasn’t prepared for — my best friends acknowledgment was good!

She didn’t want me out there! She didn’t want me lost.
I’m Qui
Encouraging you on your journey. Be the captain. Walk #TheWalk.

happy-thanksgiving-2016[NFL dibs]: The WIN goes to the COWBOYS again. #TheyDidIt.
Moms visited, dinner was gifted; tabled contents — we did #RidIt.

Are you still feeling thankful? I am. May the feeling remain.
There was a lot of food, I long chewed – therefore I carry no shame.

Are you still feeling thankful? Did you pack left overs for lunch?
I think the left overs we’ve taken up will go-on-to feed us a bunch.

We had sweet potato pie from Texas to go with the crumb apple and the pecan.dedric-overstuffed
Mom made the sweet potato pie and Cracker Barrel produced the last two pawns.

We ate most of dinners sum and then I worked out like I was in training.
The weather was perfect, good love was erect and the clouds pulled no raining.

Weight? I’m not into gaining, we had a party, a real rumba!
Friday morning will find me back on my grind: jam blocking ZUMBA.

Back on my grind making good memories and hosting good fam.
Back to not watching any type of news or giving a rats sham.

I am both grateful and thankful alike
that I have this artsy outlet of WRITE.

I am both happy and thankful indeed
that life is a gift and love is a seed.

At 6:40pm I have dipped off from the fam for a little literary fun
because I’m happy, I’m full and my COWBOYS WON!!

Congratulations COWBOYS! You are certainly looking better,
I’m Qui
that THANKFUL SHE for life, you and that 10-1 record!

Get EXCITED, already!

In Communication, Griot, Video on September 12, 2016 at 4:37 am

LIFE. It's WORTH IT!

Life is good. Life is fine.
Memories mature and get better like wine.

But then again there are those times
when EXCITEMENT come in and takes over your mind.

During these times one might not contemplate.
I mean, when you know you wanna’ DO IT — WHY would you WAIT?

.

I’d have done the same thing. I just know it.
When I’m excited I can’t refrain the ‘SHOW IT!’

Which is good, because it’s energy, it’s positive and I pray contagious.
To not have an opportunity to express this feeling would be outrageous.

What are you excited about today? Express yourself already!
Dance like no one’s looking, be happy, like Hoppy & Betty:

Today is new and yesterday is gone, o’ sister and brother.
I suggest taking-it to the floor with a musical score
and dancing-it-out like you’re Usher.

Do that Michael Jackson move and then shake your fandangle.
And if you feel a little Zimbabwean spirit – bust out the old Bo’ Jangles.

Heck! I’d do it! In fact, I’m up on my feet and doing a little something-something right now,
I’m Qui
and Good Morning to thee, Get Excited, already – and express the HOW.

Searching for your #Purpose on this Monday?
Perhaps you could benefit from a little SOUL SUNDAY:

EXCITED!

Sipping…

sipping-lemons-wisdom
Life is full of apples, pears, bananas and lemon trees
butterflies, knats, flies, mosquitos and bees.

All belong to nature and work well together
most strive in spring and summer, vacating during winter weather.

Ah. You’ve gotta love the variety of nature for it shapes the spices of life.
Like your bouquet of family and friends – some bear love and some yield strife.

You embrace the status quo, because it is the constant that is always given
and that’s cool, if you do – but don’t let it alter your productive livin.’

Thank God for the honey, then cut and slice those lemons
and put them in a cup of hot water and receive your healin.’

Sip those darn lemons slow and let them benefit you.
Then make a nice bowl of sliced and cut-up mixed fruit.

It really is ALL GOOD – if you know what to do with each one.
Some you’ll keep for love and some you’ll lose after the fun.

Life is quite lovely and flavorful because of its many fruits.
Trees will come and go though you’re DNA code remains your roots.

If you find a familial tree whose fruit suits not your taste,
It’s not your tree, so let it be and carry on with grace.

Embrace what you learn and don’t forget to always open up to love;
Observe the green of your produce; vibrate higher – expand towards the sun.

You can infuse any fruit with water, be it the meat sweet or sour.
I take the fruits that life gives me and juice them with prayer power.

Mmmmm. Good stuff.

I love to sip those lemons and sauce-the-apples when I can,
I’m Qui
Quite fond of the various fruits of the land.
The good and the bad go hand-in-hand.

law-loopholesJust when it seemed like no one was aware or looking
Dylann Roof and his legal team has gone law loop-hole crooking.

Dylann, if you don’t remember,  killed 9 in a NC church.
He was apprehended and turned in ALIVE for all that it’s worth.

He faces 33 federal charges in the incident of killing those 9 church members.
The families of Clementa C. Pinckney and Daniel Simmon will always remember.

Now he’s seeking to have his 33 indictment charges dismissed.
Yesss brother man and lady miss, I literally “just read this.”

dylann-roof-charged-with-nine-counts-of-murder-03So I took a moment to sit back and think,
then I composed this piece, here’s the  BREAKING NEWS link.

That’s not good as this is new and active news.
I’m concerned with what I’ve learned and had to share it with you.

I will not share it on Facebook as a post on my timeline.
Facebook has enough company sharing the thoughts of their minds.

I have shared a few posts in the last few days – I’ve been among the chatter.
I am concerned about this countrys violent turn. I do believe that #BlackLivesMatter.

As much as I believe that Black Lives are beautiful, I am appealing to your soul
that if we want change in America, turn out to the polls to show #BlackLivesVote.

What happened in Dallas during the protest Thursday night
has the potential to change the gun narrative… well, it might.

Instead of the blame lets all feel the shame of cop involved shootings
and turn to those who have lost dear souls, and tackle this issues at the rooting.

Why was Micah Xavier Johnson vexed so, why did he set out to kill?
Pushed to the brink via racism’s stink – he leaned unto his own will.

He was only 25 and he put his life on the line for the deaths of many.
Apparently his view was LIFE or DEATH and never mind living in tyranny.

Such view puts the fear in me. I’m doleful that he resorted to such a low,
it is apparent he felt he’d die young involuntarily, so he chose his own way to go.

Whoa. Just 25.
He’d rather end it all than be alive.

God bless all of the families who have lost loved ones.
Tamir Rice’s mom knows that feeling isn’t fun.

Eric Garners wife knows the pains full sum.
Perhaps now we can talk about reforming the control of guns.

The pain is too real and no one should feel it.
I pray we start relating to each other and work hard through time to heal it.

Guns don’t care who you are and no one should be carelessly pointing and shooting.
If black communities can learn to deal – I pray our white fam won’t linger in brooding.

Dylann Roof is not being hated on by our race, but we do hate what he did.
He showed his ass and now wants a pass – alas! such request will not be hid.

My mention in writing is comparable to “lifting the lid,”
I’m Qui
I forgive easy but he must indeed pay for what he did.

Happy ENERGY Friday

Nothing-makes-me-happier

Because I’m always HAPPY

All week long, I have been on a high
I’ve laughed so hard until I cried.

My fam is blessed, see no one died.
Life is not promised. I’m glad to be alive.

My children are safe, their rooms are… their own.
I’ve got an SUV full of gas and a cool, peaceful home.

There are a few Tubmans in the bank – so all is well and fine.
It’s actually quite chilly outside [72 temp nigh], thus I wont be all-day online.

Shopping: I’ve found a cute pair of  tie-up sandals, whose price is  way too fair.
They would look great with my new skirt, my complexion and hair.

I’ll be in the AZ today Happy ENERGY grinning.
FOCUSING on the moment; maintaining my “WINNING!Qui_2008Love

Yes! I’ll be talking to my neighbors, patrons in the mall and on the streets
regarding whatever commonalities we may have. Yes! I love “the spontaneous meet.”

So if you see me on the move in an SUV or on foot about
don’t be afraid to say, “What-up Qui? I’ll be quick to return the shout!

Good ENERGY is strong and I love sharing it with you.
I’m a lover of LIFE. For she is my Boo.

The reasons for the high energy about me are many.
Beyond love, life, you and shopping, blessings still exceed plenty.

Happy Friday – because surely THIS has been a long and productive week,
I’m Qui
Taking it all in, flashing a grin with the win and 2 steps from hugging thee. 😀

Qui Entertainment Magazine

F12G1630 copy I’m 18. Now what?

“How did you approach life?” and I responded:

It came at me like a flood; the lights were on but I was dim.
18 and legal, a dolphin/baby eagle – it was fight: flight or swim.

LIFE.

I surveyed my surroundings and saw that others were living life just fine.
This thing about “being grown” was nothing more than a state of mind.

Right? You only live once, and there’s no side bar or demo.
How did everyone know what they knew? I thought I’d missed the memo.

I was an honor student, a nerd and I have to admit I hardly tried.
I had planned to entrepreneur and forfeit college – but moms said, “that’s a lie.”

She enrolled me into college, packed my things and dropped me off.
18 was such a new thing to me, the world was huge and I was lost.

Today feels like…

In Communication, Griot, Networking, News, Self Improvement, TV Shows on July 24, 2015 at 8:21 am

excited little black girlToday feels like an awesome day!
I’ve got the sun in my eyes, my hair and my face

I live in my own place.
Love is solid; cellophane is the division of race.

Today rises above.
I’m hopeful today will be filled with more love.

I think that life is super grand,
today I will light a candle for Sandra Bland.

Today feels like it’s going to be a winner.
I just woke up, sure, but I’m no beginner.

First I kneeled to pray – ‘don’t want to be a sinner.
Now I’m kicking it with you and cheesing like Bender.

Not just because today is one of the most awesome days of the week,excited-baby-yellow-dress
but because I am alive and I have the opportunity to hem and/or tweak

anything about me and my life that is remotely out of line.
Life allows me to appreciate you more and to perfect my reel grind.

Today is a good day to do something for yourself and your lover.
Today feels like a great day to go and visit your beloved grandmother.

President Obama is executing this very idea today.
Moma Sarah is 93 and happy that her grandson is on his way.

Today is a great day to do some work on me.
I’m easily motivated to improve ol’ girl Qui.

If you’re into #SelfImprovement then stand and say, “Oui.”
Today feels like it’s got plans of success for me and thee.

Dear Friday: Unite us and making us a compassionate WE.
Today feels fantastic, like la dee da, la dee dee.

And then the McKinney Pool Party happened…

In Communication, Griot, Networking, News, Self Improvement on June 12, 2015 at 12:02 pm

summer-fun-blk-kidI’m a Texas native happily residing in sunny  & hot Arizona for the last 3.5-years, however, thanks to social media, it’s like I never left the Lone Star State at all. And then the McKinney Pool Party happened. Before I saw the video footage on the news or Facebook, I got a first hand viewing from my 17-year old daughter who lives with me here in Arizona. We are from the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and have many family members and friends there, so this story was close to our hearts. She showed me the footage on Saturday morning – the incident happened just a few hours prior on Friday night… the power of technology can facilitate a video going viral in no time and this one did just that.

Monday morning my Facebook timeline was full of comments, reblogged articles and meme’s. I tried not to get too involved in much of it because I knew personal feelings – in both directions – would be running rampart. But then I found a pretty cool piece inside of the DALLAS OBSERVER [newspaper], written by a white male and I thought it was a very level headed assessment on the lopsided subject. I shared the Dallas Observer post on my timeline and nothing happened. My guy liked it so much that he shared it from my page to his and the most intense conversation broke out. It was honest, it was heated, it was understood and misunderstood, it was reality. It was real. I enjoyed it. Most of the responses were from friends from Texas — friends that I go about 2-decades back with, (if not longer). Rather than paraphrase what she said, and he said, I thought I’d just drop the timeline on you and let you read it for yourself, follow the links and add these point of views to your informed column. I found no one to be right or wrong, but rather everyone concerned, trying to connect and taking away something to chew on…

We are all in this world together and we all want the best.
But before we let a situation turn south, let’s explore the north, east and west.

No parents children should feel that they can’t just be a kid and live.
No one should have so much authourity that he’s not checked on the yield.

No one deserves to be stopped and frisked or to feel compelled to run when the cops come.
Most black parents educate their kids to respect the cops – their instincts tell them to run.

They’ve seen what happened to Tamir Rice, Mike Brown and Rumain Brisbon alike.
They’ve learned when an officer approaches them, they could lose their lives.

We’re all sad about it, the way America must look right now.
And social media is a good place to hash it out – anyhow.

Without Facebook in play, folks would be chopping it up at work,
saying things they don’t mean and close-quarter feeling might be hurt.

Though being online and speaking ones mind seems to yield
A lot of people a little room to voice ‘How they live.”

Misunderstanding happen in life, online and in communications all of the time,
but mishandling certain citizens isn’t a pin we want to shine.

I just KNOW it’s not what we mean. We mean peace and unity for sure!
I’m Qui
and sure we’ve all been guilty of shunning the doctor and refusing the cure.

But at some point, before it all goes south
good senses prevail and you pop that pill in your mouth.

The McKinney pool party may be over, but something tells me these types of incidents are not…

Don’t Judge Too Quickly

In Communication, Griot, Networking, News, Self Improvement on March 27, 2015 at 6:43 am

Dont be too quick to judgeDon’t Judge Too Quickly why a person does a thing.
Who knows why the bell tolls, or what makes a person ring?

I do not know a thing about the pilot that crashed the German plane.
I do not know if he was in his right mind, peacefully sound or sane.

I am duly doleful for every single life that was lost
and believe that karma survived – the responsible will pay the cost.

I do not know the specifics, so I will not be quick in judgment to yell timber.
Also, Don’t Judge Too Quickly the motives of the SAE member.

Just don’t. He either will or he won’t understand what is at hand.
He is perfectly poised to change the noise – positioned to lead the band.

Life is at hand and must be looked at closely.
I’m in it for the positive networking – mostly.

I’m spectating and playing the observative role.
I’m a people-watching person. I’m a reflection of your soul.

My view? Most are fashioned from the same hue – society is the mold.
From her we have learned what is hot enough to burn and what has gone cold.

Don’t Judge Too Quickly what you yourself have shaped.
We’re all different models though from the same make.

This thing is a give and take and I choose to take this one as a high day!
I’m Qui
Up at the crack of dawn – forfeiting the yawn, I’m excited about another Friday!
