All Black People Know Each Other

In #SeveralLayersDeep, Comedy, Communication, education, Griot, Networking, News, Self Improvement on February 5, 2021 at 11:27 am

No, we don’t, but I do like the fact that no matter where in the world we are, when we see another that looks like us, we speak and often times indulge in random conversation with no formal introduction, knowing full well, we may never see that person again. I guess it’s a social/cultural thing.

Personally, I speak to everyone I encounter in passing. I smile and wave at strangers. Some are caught off guard by the gesture and wave back, while wondering if they know me, some grow stoic and just stare (like a deer in headlights), and some mean-mug me in response. However, 9 out of 10 times when I speak to a black person in passing – without pause, they speak back in kind. I love that about my culture. I do. It’s so warming. I also love it when random folk of any race are cool enough to smile and wave back at me without reservation. It’s the coolest.

I have an awesome black male friend of 23-years who is married to a fantastic white woman for about 21 years. Their interracial union is beautiful and quite productive, though he once told me that early on in their relationship he and his wife had a slight falling out because they had gone to the grocery store and as they entered the doors, a white couple exited the store. They made eye contact with the white couple. My male friend acknowledged their presence with a nod and a smile, the couple saw my friends and continued to walk their way. Once inside of the store my friends see a black guy nearing the exit, my male friend acknowledged his presence with a head nod and a smile and the black guy responded with a head nod a smile and said, “What’s up?”  Then while they shopped, he encountered a couple of other social speaking black people and he even struck up a brief conversation with a brother about an NBA game that was going to broadcast later on that evening. Once they were done shopping and had returned to their car, his wife stared at him curiously as he began to start the car. He asked her what the look was for and she said,

Wife: How do you know all of those black people and why didn’t you introduce me?

Husband: What black people?

Wife: In the store.

Husband: I don’t know any of those people.

Wife: Then why were you talking to them? I didn’t see you talking to any random white guys.

He hadn’t noticed the fact, but after yielding brief thought, he realized that he nodded and smiled at everyone that encountered him making eye contact and that many responded in kind, but only the black people responded vocally. He kissed his loving wife on the forehead and welcomed her to his culture. This was year one in their marriage. Culture is real and curiosity is cute. But…

All Black People DON’T Know Each Other – we’re just expressive in our social lovin’.  — I’m of slave descent like Oprah, sure – but we’re not really cousins.

All cultures have uniquenesses as to what makes them hot. — Among rhythm and athleticism, Black folks talk a lot. 🙂

All Black People Know is that when they see each other in the streets — if one should speak kind to another – it’s common courtesy to return the speak.

Now that does not mean that All Black People do it.  — I love smiling and speaking – So to social boundaries? Ahhh – screw it!

I speak to everyone I see. — Especially those who act like they don’t see me.

I wave at strangers I pass on the street — and known to hug a good soul at an introductory meet.

Life is short and hugs are sweet. — I smile and speak to most folk on the street.

Mean mugs don’t rest on my face. — You’ll find no frown line or ill will trace.

Yes, I’m an extrovert. I’ve heard and I am aware.

Taking the time to speak to thee, because I humanly care.

Are you a random speaker?

 And would you ever dare?

Good people know…

Good people know each other. Good people can’t help the effect
of what happens when they get together on productive terms and connect.

Not exactly highlighting Vernon’s good, a winter series heats us best,
however,  just as we climaxed on Empire, we had a family death.

Vernon Turner took one to the head– ’tis Andre’s wife delivered the blow.
The writers were riding smooth sails then instructed to “make a head roll.”

Lee Daniels didn’t have a problem with it – to keep all characters, I’m sure that he tried.
Malik Yoba said he was shooting episode 12 when he first learned that his character would die.

He died in episode 12 — Talk about an impromptu early retirement.
Malik is good people indeed, he’ll land again in a good environment.

Empire went out pretty good, and Vernon died for no good reason.
Please believe I’m hooked and can’t wait to jam it again next season.

Olivia Pope is good people, the new guy at the bar is the payer.
Olivia is in search of something more, she’s acting as “the role player.”

She’s all dolled up with no conversation, ready to tangle and twist.
I like the cut that Shonda’s giving…a shade of grey is in our midsts.

And then there’s American Crime. Have you been watching this cast at play?
Good people know, that this is the show, and we miss not a broadcasting day.

If you haven’t been watching, lucky you – it’s still quite early,
we’re on episode two, not much back work to do, if you jump on now and hurry.

I’m digging the network’s. TV is quite seasonably greasy.
They’ve got black folks reigning yolks, like living life is easy.

And it can be, if you set life up to allow you the room to grow
and network with the like minded, because Good people know

how to band together and make fantastic things happen.
Shonda and Viola Davis keep #HTGAWM cracking.

Good people know good-and-well that if you get in trouble
your best bet is to call 1-800-Keating on the 911 double.

No need to commit murder, Good people know,
that while living black you’ll attract harrass;
Legal up or to jail you go.

American Crime is a good show of that and Mr. Carter Nix
is currently under lock and key for being in the wrong mix.

He’s the black dude that’s accused of killing Barb and Russ’ son.
I know good people when I see them and most parents are #1.

Matt’s parents represent a demographic, but they don’t represent mine.
John Ridley has it going on in the creation of American Crime.

He’s got my Thursday evening time slot and my viewing attentions;
I couldn’t refuse highlighting this hue – good creation deserves a mention.

Are you watching any of these shows?
I am because Good people know

variety is the spice of life and that, this will never change.
Good people also know, the tide brings and takes shows
they need your viewership to maintain.

To all Good people that I know, I do beg of thee,
to give American Crime a chance to make tv history.

So far, I’m digging all that I see – yippee and yo!

A is for ALPHAS

In Griot, News, TV Shows on June 26, 2011 at 10:38 am

Of course Malik is an ALPHA and according to SYFY he’s also slated to be the strong arm of the season. Malik plays the role of Bill Harken who has a super power of strength. I haven’t seen it yet, but the previews have shown Malik pushing a parked car aside in a suit…so…maybe it’s like Heroes or UnOrdinary Family. Curiously I’ll be watching SyFy this summer:

AirLockALPHA.com — SUMMER is finally official and for Syfy that means more “Eureka” and “Warehouse 13.”

And, joining the light-hearted shows this year will be the second season of “Haven” and the cabler’s latest series, “Alphas.”

The series revolved around a group of ordinary citizens who develop bizarre and unusual abilities, leading them to follow in the footsteps of comic book greats by setting out to fight crime. In addition to run-of-the-mill street crime, the group of Alpha’s will also investigate cases that the CIA, FBI and Pentagon have been more than happy to leave unsolved.

“Alphas” initially started off as “Section 8” which was turned down by NBC in 2007 when the network was already committed to “Heroes” for the fall season. The series was eventually given life at ABC for a six episode pilot season with expectations of pairing it with “Lost,” a move that would certainly have pushed the series to greatness.

Then of course disaster struck. The Writers Guild of America downed tools and headed to the picket lines leaving “Alphas” in limbo. Like many other shows, the series never recovered from the strike although not from a lack of enthusiasm from the Disney-owned ABC network. Instead, it was creative differences that brought the series production to a halt before the first episode was even scripted.

Syfy recently announced its summer schedule, confirming that “Alphas” would be making its debut in July and outlining a host of new shows currently in development. Both Kevin Sorbo and Lee Majors — both sci-fi/fantasy icons in the realms of “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” and “Six Million Dollar Man” — will pick up their own shows, both playing fictionalized versions of themselves

In addition, Syfy has revealed plans for more unscripted projects including “The Haunted Collector,” “Legend Quest” and “Paranormal Witness.”

The channel also confirmed that plans are in place to broadcast special Christmas-themed episodes of “Eureka,” Warehouse 13″ and “Haven” around the festive season.

I miss New York Undercover – It was action packed and content thick.
I also missed seeing Michael De Lorenzo & Malik’s ashy lips. lol!

Okay – I’m just kidding around. Malik has got it going on.
