Rolling downhill…

From the head to the tail; the top to the bottom
When it came to the brightest minds – Washington, DC got ’em.

That was then
before the 2016 WH win.

Citizens were trolling the streets and facebook alike
sporting bumper stickers and memes to VOTE for a lie.

The citizens who voted for Drumpf [Trump]
stand up and get off of your rump,

Proudly raise your hands so that we can all be reminded
the crap that we’re in — you voted for and co-signed it.

You got behind it: the lies and daily disgust —
and said “emails were certain hell;” its Drumpf or bust!

All credit goes to you ‘hand raiser.’ Remember you were happy to shout it!
The man in the WH is not well at all. What are you going to do about it?

I’m asking you because he has no idea how to run the Government, how to console Gold Star families or cut one tax.
He’s in there picking his nose and stretching his throat, not governing but taking twitter to task.

I digress and pass on painting a bigger picture. T’is not my favorite.
Though my heart is still broken for the widow of Sgt. LaDavid.

myeshia-johnson-says-goobye

Sgt. LaDavid Johnsons widow Myeshia Johnson

LaDavid Johnson’s wife, Myeshia is pregnant, heart broken and comprehension sour
She just has questions about LaDavid having been missing for 48-hours.

His body returned home, inside of a closed casket.
Myeshia wanted to see him, but got no answer when she asked it.

It’s unfortunate that this soldier’s family is on blast like that
and it doesn’t help that the prez is divisive and that the Johnsons are black.

It’s just not a good look. It looks like disrespect on one side.
It looks like Myeshia is a Gold Star family member – LaDavid lost his life.

It’s what it looks like — and she’s carrying new life. I call that “legacy word.”
It looks like she’s going to have a world-of-a-story to share with her pending boy or girl.

Fall is in the air
it’s in my hair —
I prefer things to be fairer than they are.

I like life so much,
I’ve calibrated my own touch
I’m #MindfullyLiving and leading the charge.

Are you mindful of what you’re doing everyday? Are you mindful of your life?
Is your mind really strong, can you tell right from wrong? How do you feel about lies?

Ask yourself some basic questions then calibrate, meditate and pray.
I really need your good energy and help to overcome what’s happening today.

The N. Koreans are pissed, the Paris Accord was so yesterday and we are not done shifting lack —
The WH head is ready to put us in the red as he hangs job stability in lieu to cut tax.

Again, Drumpf supporters where are you now?
Are you in the middle class? Lock up the family cow.

cash-cow-dollar-cut-out.jpgIs your milk stored in a 401K, wallstreet or in an account?
Less than $1000 dollars is the average Americans savings amount.

Again, Drumf supporters where are you today?
You removed the bumber stickers from your car? What?! Hey!

I’m not laying in on you – no need to feel ashamed
if you’re ready to get off your hind parts and get back in the game.

The head of the WH is not well and appears quite lame.
He’s making America into something unrecognizable and strange.

Me? I’m just chronicling about it,

Good morning to thee. Wake-up! Wake-up! I’m trying to shout it.

Twosday

In Book, Communication, Griot, Networking, Self Improvement on October 17, 2017 at 4:22 am

twos-dayToday is about you – so DO YOU and a new thing or two beyond your job scene and domestic routine.

Not sure what you could add to your usual mill? Below are a few idea-starters from POP SUGAR that may help toggle your noggin a little to encourage you to think outside of the box. Pick two today and DO YOU:

divider blk_south

1. Go to a bookstore and get lost. Spend hours exploring every genre of book known to the world. Better still, snag one off the shelf and plop down in a comfy chair. Close down the store trying to finish that book (hey, you’ll save some cash), and leave only when the employees start giving you the side-eye.

Just me and my dog…

2. Indulge in some selfies. OK, as a general rule selfies should probably be taken sparingly, but every once in a while, it’s healthy to get dressed in an outfit you love and shamelessly take photos of yourself that you actually like. Let yourself keep clicking until you get it right. No one is there to judge you, except maybe your dog.

3. Complete a project you’ve been putting off. Make yourself go to a coffee shop, buckle down, and work. Update your résumé, put together a portfolio, finish your great American novel, apply to a new job or grad school, whatever. Just do it!

4. Take a hike. Spend some time with mother nature and see how the two of you get along when no one else is around. Stop and smell the roses, watch the sun set, embrace the quiet.

5. Try anew workout. Sometimes certain workouts (like Zumba, Booty Barre, anything dance-related) can be a little bit embarrassing to learn in front of other people. Master one of these fitness skills alone, or at least work on them enough so that when you’re in a class or doing it in front of your significant other, you look like you know what you’re doing . . . sort of.

6. Meditate. Find a quite space, turn the television off, put the radio on a zen or soundscape station (a station of soothing instrumentals), sit on a pillow on the floor, close your eyes and take deep breaths. Focus on a full inhale into your nose and focus on the slow exhale through your nose. Do this for about 10-minutes. Think of nothing. Focus on your breath. Be grateful for ever breath. Someone somewhere in the world is depending on a breathing machine to stay alive today. Say a prayer for them before you’re done meditating.

7. Take the longest, hottest bath of your life. Turn on some soothing music and enjoy a long soak with no fear of unwelcome interruptions.

Adding a couple of things to your daily grind that you normally don’t do,
like putting in time to self entertain, to care for and thank you –

is absolutely the right thing to do.
In all that you do in a day – don’t forget about you.

Not today, anyway.
You’ve got 24-hours to insert  some play.

Today is Tuesday and a good day to get crunk.
Pick two for you to conquer before the hump.

Me? Since I’ve conquered meditation early I’m free to workout or crook.
But since I’ve no time to steal, I’ll sit down and work on my book.

I like an exciting week, so I’m starting it off with adequate creative play!

Good morning to thee, DO something for YOU, perhaps 2 on this Twosday.

Pray, Eat, Play – Sunday

In Communication, Griot, Self Improvement on October 8, 2017 at 10:00 am

sunday

After six days of hump we rest on the seventh.
We pay homage to God; we focus on heaven.

Some do it at the church house some do it via streaming feed.
There are so many venues sewing the divine seed

On Sunday.
If you’re an NFL fan – it’s a bonus fun day.

I’ve got that die-hard blue and silver bleed.
The Dallas Cowboys are my NFL lead.

Rest is tops on my agenda so I won’t get too riled up.
I’ve got a nourishing dinner to cook; a kitchen to smell-up.

I’ll sip proseco as I go to and fro the stove.
I’m cooking pan seared trout, green beans and carrots – no rolls.

I don’t want my dinner guest to leave “on swoll,” — so we’re eating clean.
It’s okay to fish fry and do collard green – but we’re going lean.

Are you in?
My pan seared trout will make you grin.
Make you call grandmama and ask her if we’re kin. 😂

Let’s just kick back and chill in our team jerseys and sip our cups of juice.
Let us celebrate life today and with self, make a new truce

To take advantage of rest at every meet of day seven
To also pray and meditate as to not to miss heaven.

Even if “heaven is a a place on earth, “
Use day 7 to retreat from “the girth.”

Don’t look lost. You know your girth.

Enjoying the Sabbath with thee making new memories – for all that it’s worth.

Good morning baby. How’d you sleep? I’m up early — I know.

I wanted to be of the first in A-Z to see the sunrise show.

I wanted to be of the first to greet you as you awake, yawn and rise.
Nothing but good’s been pending for you – before you ever opened your eyes.

Go and get it! Don’t be surprised. You’re a beast when you’re at your best.
The way you make the fam look good, you’re not Scottish but deserve a sur name crest.

Yes, honey! Yes! Today is ours for sure.
Never mind what’s going on in front of or behind –
today was made for a score.

So let’s take it.
Let’s enjoy it to the fullest and not fake it.

Me? I’m up here on this mountain top.
Taking care of self? You know I don’t stop.

I’m up here taking-in nature and good company, alike.
I’m up here with intentions to better my life.

Inhale good vibes. Exhale all strife.

It’s the perfect awakening for girl like me on, a Friday.

QE Mag Morning Goodness

decorative-line-divider1

Good morning Sweetheart. How do you feel?
I spent the weekend resting. The number of hours were unreal.

I slept 8 hours each night for the last 3 days.
My dreams were intense. My recollection… a haze.

My body, well rested. I promise to goodness I slept plenty.
I haven’t slept this long and carefree strong – since I was in my 20’s.

I’m grateful, kinfolk. I really am. So much so, that I don’t know what to do.
Life was coming at me like a bullet train, I much prefer this pace with you.

Good morning, You. Did you wake up with a smile?
Did you affirm that you’re good? Reinforce the days mile.

You know I did and early. I like to rise before dawn to have my say.
While the world around me is asleep, I’m up to kneel and meditate
shortly after I pray.

Oh yes. I do both, goodness. I pray, and then I meditate.
The prayer is to give thanks, and I meditate to get my mind straight.

I kind of tune everything out and focus on my breath.
I do it for the love of life, I do it to strengthen my health.

I do it to focus my energy and open up the good flow of channels.
I do it because I want to be level headed as I observe and record annals.

Monday Morning Goodness. I’m so glad that you’re here.
I think this day will display many reasons for us to cheer.

I pray that all will go smooth and love will wash over this place.
I’ll start the process by braving my most loving and compassionate face.

Monday Morning Goodness. Let love be what reigns today,
I’m Qui
Excited about WE and the good that could be if we’d Meditate & Pray.
What do you say?

Good morning.

Get to know thyself

In Communication, Griot, Self Improvement on September 1, 2015 at 11:29 am

PlumQui-2015cropAnd no, I’m not talking about masturbation in particular, but that is a good way to ‘get to know thyself,’ however, I’m talking about getting to know you: physically, emotionally and mentally. You don’t have to be a doctor, you just have to be in touch with yourself. I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I am very much in touch with myself. If my right eye flutters 3 times in an hour you best believe I have made a note of it somewhere, either text, iPhone notes, or on my laptop. Text is a good way to document stuff. I preface my Mom as the text recipient and I guarantee you the issue will be thought about, prayed about,  documented and never forgotten. My Mom is going to follow up with me more than the doc could ever afford too. It’s a great system I’ve got going – it works. Text your mom today. 😉

But what about subtle stuff? I mean, I’m 44, a mom of kids 18 & 24; surely TIME is looking for an opportunity to lay claim on my youthful parts. I’m fighting. I stay active, I take vitamins, supplements, drink smoothies, do cardio 4-5 times a week all to fight off the onset of Old Man Age. Sometimes he bypasses the obvious ‘middle-age spread’ tactics and attempt to go after your mental or emotional stability. You may find that you’re forgetting things quicker or that you’re sluggish on thought recollection — I recommend GINKO BILOBA before running for the hills or to the doctor crying Dementia. Regardless, you still have to be pretty in-tune and aware of self to be able to pinpoint such subtle changes. You may have to monitor yourself over a period of time to make sure you’re picking up on and tending to the right issue.

I’m a research junkie. If something hurts on my body, I’m researching it. I’m not into psychosomatics, however, I do believe it is real, so I avoid over researching or being led down the “rabbit hole of terminal illnesses.’ It’s futile. I research and look for clues that reasonably fit my symptoms, then I look for a hand and foot REFLEXOLOGY chart to see if I can pinpoint and massage the issue of (internal organ) concern. You do utilize reflexology, don’t you? You should. All nerves end in your hands and feet. Get in touch with yourself via reflexology. It’s amazing.

When I find that a long day of research and column creating is wreaking havoc in my shoulders, I turn to Christina. Christina is my 23-year old muscular skeletal therapist. She moves mountains from my shoulders via MUSCLE MANIPULATION and threatens them to return. This is my way of countering  physical stresses; I get physical back. I currently see my therapist once a month, (they’ve got me on an auto draft plan). You should try it. You deserve it – well at least your body does.

Don’t struggle with the chattering monkey during the day or during the night. When you find yourself being overwhelmed from day to day with an influx of valid and/or invalid thoughts – stop and do something about it. MEDITATE and/or pray in a quiet space.  Put a blanket and a pillow on the floor to slightly elevate your bottom while you sit in a relaxing pose, just focusing on your breath. Think: Inhale. Exhale. Think nothing more. Just breathe. Experience the rise and flatten of your tummy as you breathe. It’s relaxing. After doing this for at least 2-3 minutes, perhaps you may go into a chant, or a prayer. If you’re a praying person, go for prayers of thanksgiving. Try to avoid praying for things and that includes, people, places, material things,  jobs, kids, etc. Just breathe and GIVE THANKS. Don’t know what to give thanks for? Try giving thanks for YOUR LIFE. If you nothing else – you’ve still got it.

These things: vitamins, supplements, massages, reflexology and meditation have done me a world of good. The more my body gets back into it’s original alignment (inside and out) I seem to have a more heightened awareness of self. Just last year my doctor feared I’d be a joining the high blood pressure gang, and we weren’t sure why I was good candidate, other than my genetics, (I’m black). So I started incorporating massage and a consistent vitamin and supplement regimen, I added in exercise and massage and voila! My blood pressure is 118/76, (as of today – which is down from 139/80). 118/76 is an ideal number for my age. I’m doing great. My diet is in transition. I shamelessly still love Cheezits, Chocolate and Dr. Pepper. Lord help me. I’m working on it everyday.

The diet is crucial. 80% of our weight lies not in our exercise regimens but what we are eating. My diet is responsible for my labanza! I know me and I can do better.

decorative-line-divider1

I don’t know too much, but I do know me.
I’m a DNA product from the old family tree.

I know my ancestors had high blood pressure, diabetes, amputations and the likes.
I know that I will eat every fruit and veggie in the garden to not hit that low spike.

I know that my mind is strong but Alzheimer ran up and caught my great Aunt.
My grandmother died in her right mind — we’re looking for no forgetful DNA haunts.

I know that if I eat at Golden Corral, and my stomach hurts that I have food poisoning.
You can’t eat there. The sneeze guard doesn’t care. Your good mind will caution – bells go off noisily.

I know that if I go outside and play in the rain with no shoes or rain coat on
then sneezing and coughing and heaving and hawking may be my consequential jones.

Be aware of what you’re doing, take time to Get to know thyself,

How to Reboot YOU

In Communication, Griot, Self Improvement on May 4, 2015 at 6:22 am

reboot-300x222I know what you’re thinking — “But do I have to shut down?
Perhaps and it’s okay to wear the #SelfPreservation crown.

You preserve your residence by caring for your home inside and out.
You care for your smart phone data with external hd’s and backing it up to the cloud.

You take good care of your vehicle, inspections and checkups are always made.
You take care of the kids and lurking obstacles, hid – but what about you, today?

Did the computer freeze up? Apps seem to have gone awry?
Reboot first, before your brain is fried.

Save yourself the time of delving into hack level troubleshoots
by trying the easiest choice: sign out and reboot.

Often times if you’ll wait a few minutes before powering up your device
you will find all has smoothed itself out and all is alright.

That’s a lot like life. Sometimes it can become staccato,
perhaps yielding a feeling of more STOPs than GOs.

Enough with the whoas, turn off your phone and social media unplug,
you are operating in a mundane mode and it’s filled with destructive bugs.

.
Step in front of a mirror and give yourself a BIG hug.
You’ve been neglecting yourself. Its time to be a “self preserve” thug.

Steal a little time away just for YOU.
Take as much time as you need to reboot.

Social media will bait and wait, your cell phone holds voicemail,
the people that love you will still be there – all others can go to hell.

It’s all about you.
Meditate for a breakthrough.

It’s okay to reboot.
Don’t get lost in the groove,
take the headlines – stick and move.
Self preservation is all about you.

WHY NOT YOU? There’s no good reason why you should not be at your best life at any age. I’m currently on a journey to discover as much every day. So far, I think it’s doing a good job of playing hide-and-seek with me. Good thing I’m persistent and determined.

I too, am a checkout line magazine reader though it was my monthly home subscription to EBONY Mag that proved to be most instrumental in ELEVATE’ing my mind to the necessary level of refocusing on a healthier and happier me. Dr. Oz was instrumental in Melissa Johnsons piece on page 75 of the April 2013 publication:

Fight HEALTH Threats

Hypertension. High Cholesterol. Diabetes. These medical conditions plague our people in record numbers — in fact, they are so common, we tend to think in terms of when we’ll be diagnosed, not if. “That might lead you to believe they’re inevitable, but nothing could be further from the truth, “says Mehmet Oz, M.D., host of The Dr. Oz Show and a vice-chair and surgery professor at Columbia University.

You’re never too old or too young — to benefit from a healthy makeover, but don’t panic: You don’t have to jump into a strict diet and exercise routine to reduce your risk factors or improve an existing condition. The following lifestyle changes can help you get it together in your 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and beyond.

Reduce Hypertension NOTE

20s_NO TO SALT

The major food factor for hypertension is salt, says Dr. Oz. “Where salt goes, water will follow. Think of your blood vessels as a hose: the more water in the hose, the greater the pressure.”

Replace all that salt with flavorful mixed herbs– oregano, peppers and Indian blends. Another salt-free substitute: Capsiacin [based sauces, which add a spicy kick and provide a bonus benefit: “Capsaicin reduces your appetite.” Capasaisin is found in chile peppers, the common ingredient in most hot sauces. Cut back on processed and take-out foods, opting instead for fresh food when possible.

“Ninety percent of the salt we eat comes from processed foods,” says Dr. Oz. And watch your intake of the “salty six,” common foods often loaded with extra salt: bread, cold cuts, pizza, poultry, such as chicken nuggets, soups and prepared sandwiches. Read the labels.

40s_PotassiumFight the pressure-elevating effects of sodium with this essential mineral. “Potassium and sodium compete with one another in your body,” Dr. Oz explains, “and eating foods with lots of potassium reduces the amount of sodium.” Avocados, bananas, oranges, potatoes and tomatoes are a few of the potassium powerhouses he wants to see in your grocery cart.

the letter Meditation is a proven stress reliever, no matter how many candles are on your birthday cake. And for older adults who don’t exercise as hard as they used to, the ancient practice can help improve overall mental health, improve focus and reduce essential hypertension, a type of high blood pressure that tends to develop over time and has no underlying cause. It may sound easy, but meditating effectively takes commitment and focus. “People have a hard time letting their minds be free,” says Dr. Oz, who practices meditation himself. “For me it’s harder than running a marathon. You can daydream when you’re running, but when you meditate, you have to let your brain be quiet.”

Can you feel it

This morning I awoke rather early [3:15 am/CST] and I could just feel it – SOMETHING GOOD IS IN THE AIR. It’s thick in the universe. Can you feel it? Pipe down the television, the radio, and any other unsubstantial conversation in your head and see if you can tune into and catch ahold of this feeling.

I assure you it’s not just me. I have nothing (personal) to feel pinnacled about on my journeyed path. SOMETHING GOOD IS IN THE AIR. Feel it.

Despite the Pentagon Official whose body was recently found in a land fill;
Despite our loosing Officer Smith at the hands of a homicidal ill will –
I still feel that something good is lurking in the air.
I awoke this morning to sheer happiness in my hair.
I feel as if I could live life today without a care…
It’s as if there’s a “safety net of security” to hold me – somewhere.

I feel not like this is an isolated blessing.
I’m sharing the vibe to relieve you of any unnecessary stressing.
Save the stress for another day.
LOVE yourself, MEDITATE, and PRAY.

Sure there are low points in the world. ‘Tis the world has always known,
I’m Qui
and You really should catch a hold of this good feeling through the words I’ve sown.

Grab ahold of this — and make it your own!

Note to Self: WIN TODAY!!!!
