The other day I had a couple of quiet hours alone
so I kicked back and put channel 279 on.
I have DIRECTV, so that channel is OWN
and the drama that resonated was good to the bone.
GREENLEAF is the show and though its coming to a close – its first season,
It’s PRIME SOAP and melanin dope; the cast of players yield familial reason.
There’s Lynn Whitfield, Keith David, Lamman Rucker and Tye White
as well as Kim Hawthorne, Merle Dandridge and Madam “Oprah” Dynamite.
The familial situations and the scrip writing is out of sight.
I watched a couple of episodes back-to-back that night
and easily so.
It was so good that I absolutely couldn’t let go.
So I watched
and tick tock went the clock
as the Bishops family fell apart…
this, in the first seasons start.
GREENLEAF is the family, their faith and professions are in the church.
Prayer is hailed for healing – they pray for others, but they, themselves, are hurt.
Keith David is the Bishop, you remember him from SOMETHING ABOUT MARY?
The way this man transitions in roles is quite believable and errily scary.
He plays his part as if he’s playing no part at all;
his house of clergy is exposed and threatens to fall.
Lynn Whitfield is the Bishops wife and first lady. She’s classy from A to Z.
She walks soft, but you can tell she’s the domestic boss and reigns proper in her scenes.
Ooo y’all! Please tell me that I’m the last one to find this gem.
I pray that you’re watching, I love the scripted hymns.
If this show were not so fantastically WRITTEN we could call this a reality show.
In the face of the truth kudos to the writing team. I’m hooked and ready to go…
find this series in satellite broadcast do a religious re-run
because this season is “already in progress” and is almost done.
Catching up can be fun and on DirecTV it’s free.
I’m Qui
enjoying my OWN tv and the innards of the mega church via GREENLEAF.
And let’s NOT TALK ABOUT Brother Mc Cready….
airs Wednesdays 10/9c
