Key Black History_Multi Media Players-1.gifI have a feeling this title will be a reoccurring one
because being a Multi Media Player is so much fun. So, let’s start with:

ANGELA BASSETT
She knows only to smash it!
Have you ever seen a show with her in it
and she didn’t win it?

BEYONCE is always about an intentional slay.
Learn the rules, and get in Formation if you want to play!

SHONDA RHIMES is a series network Dime.
Holding audiences captive is her M.O. shine.

QUI is WHO keeps
the Griot beat
and yields sublime rhymes
that chronicle our times.

OPRAH enhances the view inside of our homes
via the many positive morale shows on OWN.

She mastered adolescent success and transcended it to grown.
Kicking it with JADA PINKETT-SMITH is to listen strong.

She’s got a Podcast Show titled RED TABLE TALK.
She is a woman of will and she walks the walk.

Introducing Ms. SYLEENA JOHNSON – to those who don’t already know.
She’s new to me via  TV ONE’s SISTER CIRCLE show.

She is one of four hosts. Please tell me that you’ve seen it?
Once I tuned in, I realized just how much I mean it…

to support them.
Their union of love needs no alteration or hem.

On a recent episode I became a Syleena fan –
when I heard her new joint titled, WOMAN:

These are just a few skill capacity slayers
that I’m proud to list as Multi Media Players.

What about you?
What’s that thing that you do –
that you are into?

It’s because of you that each player get’s any play.
Big THANKS to you and your consumer ways.

Black History wouldn’t be the same without you,
I’m Qui
grateful and humble. This bow is for you.

NEWS PERUSE

In News on June 13, 2014 at 7:55 am

It’s fully June in Arizona and I couldn’t refuse
to light another short wick of NEWS PERUSE:

Liv the Rapper

First thing’s first, it’s Friday fa’ sho’,
and I’ve come up on some good stuff, that I did not know.

Remember when Solange kick the guts out of Jay-Z the other day,
well there’s a lady twitting out to Bey, “a counter” on the say.

Her name is Liv and she’s a Miami rapper
who’s implying Jay-Z tried to be a potential tapper.

She told this juicy info to LIFE & STYLE Magazine,
then backed it up on Twitter – for an additional sheen.

I ain’t mad, and she wasn’t over the top – though she did admit,
she turned Jay down because of his ‘married crown’ – she called it: #RealWomanSh%t.

BlackLineDivider

I’m a creative chic with a real tight seam
and Shondra Rhimes advices I “Ditch the Dream!”
What does it mean?

Scandal is tops – Shonda is pretty much at a point where competition can’t penetrate her,
With digital pin she created a new spin called:  HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER!

CBS chimed in Tuesday night, but only for a few words-worth well,
to bring me up to speed on what I’ve missed with my boy, Dave Chappelle.

He’s been on hiatus from the job, for quite a spell.Chappelle and Letterman
Chappelle appeared thicker in stature but looked quite well.

When Letterman asked Chappelle if he regretted leaving his Comedy Central Show?
Chappelle said, technically, he never quit – he’s just 7-years late, yo!

Letterman and Chappelle joked around for a few more minutes, nothing to really make you holler,
then he asked if the Half Baked star was happier with or without the $50-million dollars?

Dave Chappelle responded…click here

Bey & Blue Ivy and J-Panorama

Self hate isn’t anything new but it’s back in the news
as it pertains to Baby Knowles-Carter and her “mane blues.”

Now, Blue Ivy is hardly blue, but the onlooking public is ripping
in forums about her hair. I think the public is tripping.

Is it really necessary for Blue to have a hairdresser
who hangs out with The Carters & later turns “confessor?”

I always advice people to keep other folks out of their business and homes.
And now I’m asking criticizing black folk – to please leave Baby Blue alone.Screen Shot 2014-06-12 at 7.09.50 PM

She is 2 – for Gods sake! Let her live and be happy.
It’s good to know your roots — and her roots are nappy.

I like nappy hair. I have a head full of it, myself.
What does Blues hairdo have to do with her parents wealth?

NOTHING. Nothing at all.
I think the sensational-pull is a filter stall

to keep the flames fueled between Bey and Jay-Z.
It’s hard to be cool at home when being blasted with so much heat.

Yes, it seems a collection of black people, have gone to CHANGE.ORG
to petition that Bey comb Blue Ivy’s hair. Come on! My good Lord!

It’s sad, as all get out, that our community doesn’t like her hair.
It’s an ancestral root issue and to Blue — it’s not fair.

Bey & Blue Ivy 2Beyonce buys her hair, and buys the best grade.
Should she do the same for Blue? Even Allah should forbade.

There’s no need to glue-in or sew, or even ponytail or braid
a childs hair, who works NO WHERE, just to win the love of the day.

The same people who are complaining will also be the very ones,
who’ll accuse the Carters if Blue is committed to the salon instead of fun.

You can not please everyone – so why even try to give?
Plus, Bey’s got enough on her plate – dealing with Jay “on Liv.”

The stress and pressures of life are real – and 2 of these peruses were on the Carters,
I’m Qui
and I lit the wick, it was faint and quick – though among black folks, the flames fan harder.

I love movies. I love writing them, shooting them, editing them and most of all, I absolutely love watching them. My favorite film writers vary between a colorful, intellectual and goofy array of genres and styles.

HORROR films? I absolutely dig them. I’m a fan of the ol’ Wes Craven – big time. I grew up on Elm Street, but that takes no love away from my appreciation of Sam Raimi’s EVIL DEAD or Stephen Kings CARRIE or William Peter Blatty THE EXORCIST [1973]. I even have love for Alfred Hitchcocks THE BIRDS. I mean there are so many horror films I didn’t list that (to you) may be way more horrific and even stellar in genre — and I likely would not disagree with you. I like variety. Listening to your short list, I could  mess around and learn something new. I like learning – so I’m wide open.

You have to appreciate differences.
Differences of genre, style, technique, writing and vision are key.

I like Tyler Perry. I’m a relatively new fan of his. I was no fan of the Madea series at all. I was fortunate to see Mr. Perry live and on stage in Dallas, TX before his rise to television and film and the style wasn’t for my taste. I respected his right, but cared not for his staged writes. Naturally our “first introduction” led me to not be in a rush to see his films or other play works. Though after reading article after article on the attack of Mr. Perry’s writes, his style and even his ‘bafoonery’ and mockery of quality black film entertainment, I began to reconsider. Even with my own theatrical reservations – I strongly disagreed that Mr. Perry should be condemned for his vision, his style or his genre choices, after all, so many others are entertained by him. I respect that. We all should.

In the name of respect and second chances, I set out to be reintroduced to Tyler Perrys work at WHY DID I GET MARRIED 2, (and no – I did not see WHY DID I GET MARRIED prior to seeing part 2 because I still wasn’t in the mood). Why did I get married 2 was not a brilliant film, but it was a relative film. Black culture was Tyler’ly tailored and oozing in every scene. It felt like I was watching family. Some dignified, some degreed, some lacking and in need, some funny and on the go and others living life like ‘I don’t know.’  They were all right there. So at the conclusion of the film, there was no standing applause, or a sitting one for that matter but there was a lot of comfortable  laughing in the dark throughout the broadcast. I left the theater satisfied. It was as if I paid $8 to hang out with a few relative folk and had a good time. Tyler mixed a whole bunch of drama, a little suspense and easy going pockets of comedy into Why Did I Get Married 2 that the cast was able to convey. Speaking of cast, I do believe Tyler Perry is considered to be a major employer when it comes to hiring black actors. 🙂 Another reason why this brother gets my vote. SUPPORT is crucial.

Ice Cube isn’t Tyler Perry and Tyler Perry isn’t Spike Lee.
John Singleton isn’t Shonda Rhimesshe’s all over the TV.

American Pie is a jewish dish and God knows I love Matzo!
Film variety should be accepted as easily as diversely shaped pasta.

It’s all made the same way & entertainment flavors the pallet.
If it’s good, we eat more – if not we yield Ghallagers mallet.

Big ups to Queen Latifah for her reel underground efforts in broad day light.
Queen Latifah not only raps and sings, but she film produces, directs and writes.

I love movies, I love people – I thank God for the field that I am in.

These Women

I had to go to PP

Today Ann Richards must have danced in her grave
at the way Cecile Richards worked the DNC stage.

Honesty and truth did manifest and win
when she addressed the rights and health of all women.

I love her white hair and her Ann Richards grin.
I second the notion: Obama’s going to win!

It was April 2011 -I was in Texas and not feeling too good.
Abdominal cramps during my insurance gap sent me to Planned Parenthood.

My job and insurance were shipped overseas in 2008 for sho’,
and without it — my gynecologist couldn’t see me no ‘mo.

Oh! I couldn’t get my uninsured foot in the do’.
Something had to be done. I chose a ‘job relocation’ flow.

Less than a year ago, I found another job with benefits equivalent to gold;
and the way I feel about Planned Parenthood is gratefulness from my soul.

Had I not seen PP in 2011, I would have surely been a statistics chancer.
They found abnormalities on my papsmear and helped me avoid cervical cancer.

I’m just like the millions of other women who look like debatable sitters.
I’m like those millions of women who are rallying behind Cecile Richards.

I’m one of the millions of women, who feel that limiting my right to health care is terribly unfair.
I’m one of those millions of women who regardless of party choice – for quality life – I do care.

There are a 1 million and 1 other bullet points me and those other women share,
I’m Qui
Grateful
to Cecile Richards leading the cause. I thank God PP was there…

Because I had to go.

While reading Blackvoices.com I came up on this,
a 15-year old girl has gone ‘on the miss.’

Her mother is distraught and on a prayer she dwells;
since August 18th, she’s been MISSING Gabrielle.

Her mother was at work from 7-3:30
though at some point in between the devil got dirty.

Gabrielle was asleep in her bed, securely snug and without a care.
It was unusual for her to not be home in the eve – when her mom got there.

Disturbed and awfully worried, as this all happened on August 18th.
Gabrielle is still missing – Please call 803-576-3000 if you’ve seen…

There is a subject in custody whose cell phone was near Gab’s on that day.
And though he isn’t talking, he’s sitting in a jail cell for temporary stay.

Gabrielle is 15, she’s a cheerleader and plays the guitar.
Gabrielle’s mom is living in darkness – please help her find her DNA star.

BLACK TV Sitcom Stuff Pt.2

In News on May 30, 2011 at 2:19 pm

Entertainment Weekly pressed a great read
that Qui Entertainment couldn’t refuse to transcribe & feed::

“The Rise & Fall and Rise Again of Black TV”

Entertainment Weekly — Part 2. Let’s Stay Together debuted in January to 4.4 million viewers, and Perry’s shows consistently hover near the 3 million mark. Even the competition has taken notice of The Game’s blockbuster debut: “Those numbers were wildly impressive to everybody,” says Michael Wright, TBS’ head of programming. “We’ve done really, really well with Tyler’s shows, but [The Game] surpassed even Tyler’s ratings. That premiere number should’ve made everyone think, “that’s a rating anyone would be happy to have.'”

So far, the broadcast networks have yet to act on the trend. While ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and The CW have made progress the past few seasons when it comes to casting diverse ensembles, the selection of shows in the pipeline for this fall once again lacks series with predominantly African American (or Latino or Asian) casts. “The world on television should look like the world I see when I walk outside my door,” says Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes, developing of the fall season’s strongest contenders with a black lead, ABC’s Damage Control starring Kerry Washington as PR guru. And Queen Latifah, who starred for five seasons on Fox’s Living Single, sees African-American series as a way to represent a point of view sorely missing on television: “People live in bubbles and they perpetuate racism and classism. There’s still plenty of places they can go [on TV] that are as un-diverse as they could possibly be,” says the Ladies producer. “It’s just something that’s going to be a continuing fight, to try to keep making these things happen.”

Regardless of why the networks program for black audiences, viewers are clearly hungry for these shows: Not only are the few shoes doing well, reruns of long-cancelled series like My Wife and Kids and Everybody Hates Chris still top cable charts among African-American viewers. Says Charlie Jordan Brookins, senior vice president of programming for BET: “We’re not necessarily trying to say this is the new frontier. We'[re trying to super-serve an audience who has been underserved.” Adds Malcolm-Jamal Warner, “The black viewership is important. Black shows do make money. It seems like a no brainer.
