JAMMING in the DARK

In Griot, Music, Networking, News, Self Improvement, Video on March 14, 2016 at 4:52 am

I don’t know what you’ve seen and heard,
but it’s 4:30am and I’m up jamming this! My word:

It’s nothing like waking up and feeling beautiful.
This throwback [looking] vid is purposeful and dutiful.

I found it on Facebook and to the poster – I did not block.
In fact I immediately shared the post of Shavina Peacock.

Her #FIT ways are progressive and ‘don’t stop.’
Then there’s this HOOK that my mind has on lock:

black-is-beautiful.gif

The words! The words! They speak to me.
I think this is the theme hook of Qui.

When I further researched the video that caught my eye on Facebook,
I learned that this joint is tribute to The BLACK PANTHERS look.

I ain’t mad. In fact I’m glad that someone is heralding me pretty.
Diversity needs no rehearse and Division is a real pitty.

Oh well. If you choose to miss out by diss out —
My perfect lips won’t bend to pout.

I’m feeling A-OKAY as I jit up to go.
I’m digging on a dude with a cool afro.

He’s looking after me and I’ve got his back – YO!
It’s Monday morning, I’m done yawning and I’m good to go.

Black is Beautiful and this video inspires me to keep on singing!

Take time to love, hug and kiss. RUN THE VIDEO AGAIN -it’s sweetening.

News Peruse

In Communication, Griot, Networking, News, Self Improvement on December 4, 2015 at 6:57 am

news-peruseLet’s talk about what’s gone wrong and let’s talk about what’s still good.
Let’s talk about the #GunViolence breakout in OUR neighborhoods.

To the news on the tube – we are glued and in full submission
wondering if the breaking news of a MASS SHOOTING is to be considered TERRORISM.

Mass violent death tolls have risen and I’m sitting here asking the universe why?
What is the cause that beats all and has convinced folk to take their own and others lives?

God shield us from minds that have adopted ill plights – and thanks for every ill attempt thwarted.
Bless the surviving families in morn for those who have – in a mass casualty, departed.

What happened in San Bernadino on Wednesday morning – surely God forbade.
Someone targeted and shot up a social center for the disability – while hey were in mode celebrate.

14 were killed and 21 were hurt.
2 suspects are dead – though initially they were looking for a third.

1 of the deceased  was a woman. What in the world?
I thought sugar and spice were the ingredients of girls.

I guess that was the word back then – when I was a kid.
I guess things have changed. Ingredients reneged.

Turns out the deceased female was the co-terrorists wife
Seems the two of them planned the day of mayhem and strife.

Apparently this was their plan – to end theirs and others lives.
They left behind a 6-month old baby and a lifetime of WHY’s.

We see it, we hear it – but what’s going on and what are we to do
with the out break of mass shootings? Bleak reality truths.

Those folks done up and left their youth
leaving behind mass pains that weigh on me and you.
Ooo!

In the end we’ve learned there wasn’t a 3rd suspect.
The terrorist came and lived a short reign – before law enforcement escorted them to death.

Basically, they ceased the terrorizing and put the betrothed terrors in check.
May good always triumph. Mayhem’s a bad bet.

Somebody said praying to God won’t fix it – God can’t help.
If we turn away from our foolish ways – I believe He’ll help us arm ourselves.

Too bad this isn’t an isolated neighborhood, so that we could all just move.
To harm thyself and as many others in a radial distance – is a nasty groove.

From bad energy – I do remove myself. This is serious business. This is real life.
I’ll continue to watch and pray as I’m on my way. I’ll utilize a vigilant eye.

Life is so good… so why? Who lit the nasty fuse?
I refuse to yield all chatter to bad in this winter News Peruse.

Therefore I’m going to talk about something else – let’s get it understood,
Qui Entertainment is into positive energy and passing on vibes of good.

We are into spreading unity and weighing in on the social scales.
We’re into you and your safety too. Not interested in hand baskets bound for hell.

So let’s lighten things up for a spell. Keep praying but keep smiling too.
Life is short and evil will meet its thwart still there’s so much LIFE in you.

How are you feeling? How do you want to feel? Reach down and grab your boot straps.
Pull them up, give yourself a hug. Go out, fist bump and dap.

Clap! Clap! It’s Friday baby and the world does hold much
The available vibes are sad, glad, mad, angry, fear or love.

What’cha want? You can have it.
And when life get’s a little funky – kick back and laugh at it.

The spirit of offense is on the troll and it’s hoping to affect you.
Look at what’s going on. Resist giving in to the offensive truths.

No matter what, you are the master of your own fate.
Be happy, be brave and watch what and whom you invite into your space,

in your life, on your journey — be sure to vet each one.
Nothing in life is free, not even safety – no assured funs.

It’s me and you hun’, let’s ride this thing out flat.
Let’s put down the corn and dismiss the scorn – we need to have each others back.
Can you do that?

Enough of my UNITY PUSH, there are other headlines in the news.
I know you didn’t drop by to get single topic high – so do let us peruse:

Is that your luggage

Don’t we all have some? We even drag it around with us on vacation — don’t we? Not to mention our suitcases, which are also usually in tow.

Do you know the difference between the two? One should be left at home and the other should be neatly packed with changes of clothes. Right?

Recently I read a very comical and insightful novel entitled: The Bellman Chronicles, by Robert Hookey. If you’re a well-read wordpress blogger or a former (or frequent) hotel guest, you may know him as ‘The Hook’.

You haven’t met him? Then by all means, let me introduce you. The following write is a reblog of his.

It’s one chronicle account of ‘a day in the life of a bellman’. The Hook is a bellman. He’s the one carrying your suitcase and often times than not, he’s carrying your luggage too.

Enjoy the reblog and Have a Fantastic Hump Day. I’m already in route.

Apologies, Corporate Bigwigs and Business as Usual

CORPORATE BIGWIG: Excuse me, I need to speak to you about my car –

THE HOOK: Certainly, sir. You need to speak to the gentleman over there (I pointed across the hall) you’ll save yourself time. I wouldn’t want you to have to repeat yourself.

CB: (In a loud, “Get me some coffee, maggot!” voice) I HAVE NO INTENTION OF REPEATING MYSELF! YOU’RE GOING TO HELP ME NOW! I HAVE BUSINESS TO RUN AND MEETINGS TO ATTEND! I KNOW WHAT I’M DOING, DO YOU?

THE HOOK: I know which desk I’m manning. Do you?
And with that, I pointed at the sign perched upon my desk that reads “BELL DESK“. Once again, I wish I could capture these moments…

CB: (After much pondering) Well, this must be a very satisfying moment for you…

THE HOOK: I have to admit, sir, my morning was pretty dull until a moment ago.
Corporate Bigwig took $10 from the pocket of his expensive raincoat and slapped it on the desk.

He then gathered up his files and suitcase, tucked his corporate tail between his legs and headed off to the actual Valet Desk.

Some people think money can negate stupidity and a lack of consideration for one’s fellow man.

Those people are right.

My friend: The HOOK @ Check Out

In Communication, Griot, Networking, Self Improvement on June 7, 2011 at 2:55 pm

Are you HOOKED yet?

His vibe is a friendly one. The two of us met here on WORDPRESS. We’re blog neighbors. I thought you might enjoy a story of his that I recently read. Hook is a Doorman, so you can imagine he hears more stories than the bartender while yielding only a third of the time that a bartender would serve, due to his highly revolving and interactive schedule.

Check out who was ‘checking out of the hotel’ the other day and what they told The Hook – their story is a humanizing one. It’s a short read with a deep impact::

You’ve Been Hooked

“A Story Behind Every Door”

When you work in a hotel with a thousand rooms, you can expect an equal number of unique encounters with every type of human being imaginable.
And some you would never have expected.

He was a nondescript, timid, slightly frail white senior who could barely look me in the eye, courtesy of a back curved by the rigors of time. She was difficult to make out at first, as the air in the room was thick with smoke and and the glare of the morning sun. Upon closer examination it was obvious time had been far more cruel to her.

Her hair, what was left of it, was hidden beneath a scarf and her hand shook as she pressed yet another cigarette to her chapped lips. She could no longer move without a walker or a cane and her eyes remained directed at the floor the entire time I gathered their luggage.
I was waiting for the service elevator when a faint tap emanated from the other side of the swinging door.

GUEST: I forgot your tip in the room! I left $10 for the housekeeper and $4 for you!
THE HOOK: You’re not exactly motivating me sir….
GUEST: Can you get it yourself? I left my keys in there. We’ll meet you downstairs.

Of course, my master-key picked that exact moment to die. Classic Hook moment, right?
My only hope at a tip, even a meager one, seemingly shot down, I made my way to the valet deck where my couple was waiting. He lovingly helped her into their Caddy (why do old guys love Cadillacs?) and popped the trunk and watched intently as I loaded their bags. Despite the earlier mishap, he still tipped me $5 and left me with a few things to ponder….

GUEST: Thanks for everything. Sorry about forgetting your tip, she had an accident in the room last night…
THE HOOK: No harm done. I hope she’s all right….
GUEST: She has a few weeks left. Cancer.
THE HOOK: I…..don’t know what to say, sir.
GUEST: It started in her colon, then the lungs, brain, and finally it entered her bones.
THE HOOK: How long have you been married?
GUEST: Ten years now.

At that point, I was speechless and so we simply shook hands and he went on his way, off to a dark future that will no doubt seem bereft of hope for some time. I wish I could have summoned some words of wisdom, but my mind was reeling from shock.

Could The Hook possibly have composed words to sufficiently comfort a man facing such a significant and inescapable loss?

Could anyone?

Life is fragile – life is frail;
Live it happy – live strong – be well.

For no man knows what the future holds.
Be it turmoil — would you be so bold?

Life is fragile – Life is frail
Your life is a story – like those the The HOOK tells.

Excited about the youth of my life,
